In the market for a change of cars and looking for something to meet the following criteria;

Big enough rear space for car seat
Big enough boot space for pram and other ancillary items (e.g. >400 L)
Preferably petrol due to c8k PA
Budget 15k absolute maximum
'Reliable'
In the region of 20 - 30 mpg is OK, although higher preferred

Things I've considered;
Peugeot 308 GTI - was top contender but poor residual and apparent electrical faults have dampened the appeal
Octavia VRS - like the interior, hate the exterior
BMW 33x touring - poor overpriced examples in budget, mostly diesel.
Golf GTD estate - diesel...
Golf R estate - appealing to theives

What am I missing?!

Thanks for that... Certainly a good range, although already discounted the V40, 1 series and ST hatch on boot size. Nothing can match the 308 in that respect. ST estate looks worth investigating.

Couldn't face spending 15k on an infinity. Looks aside, it will likely be worth nothing when I come to move it on.

Insignia in estate form would be preferable. They look considerably better, something to think about...

Thanks,

What sort of real life MPG would the Estate ST3 get ZX10? Thank you
I'd take a guess at 25-30 for the petrol and >40 for the diesel

No problem the V60 might suit you better especially in T6 form:

S3 Sportback

2.0T S Line Sportback I think the S3 above represents better value overall

VXR Estate these are a bit rarer & not quite as much of a bargain as the hatch but as you say they suit your requirements.

Or if you can live with a 2.0T 250bhp then the regular Insignia is great value:

That V60 really looks appealing - shame I can't stretch to the updated interior, but it is certainly a contender!

Boot is probably a bit small on the Audi A3/S3, I think I would be looking at S4 Avant territory. But it would be a high miler 3.0 V6 in budget.

I spent 24k on a 2.2d Q50 in 2015ish, sold 2 years later for 11k with 25000 on the clock. I too would also not spend 15k on an Infiniti, especially now they're out of the UK.

On topic though, I was going to suggest a 340i, as the earlier examples should be getting nearer 15k, but the mileage on them are a bit high, and the CO2 is higher than you want.

Audi A6 Avant 3.0 TDi could be a shout if you're open to diesels? Definitely going to fit everything in the boot.

If you can get over the gopping back end (and diesel again...) there's the 335D GT
Agree on the 340i, maybe even out of haggling reach for a decent one in budget...
