Hi folks, I’m the proud owner of a completely standard (except black wheels) R32 that I’ve owned for over 10 years. It’s been my pride and joy and used every day (well not in lockdown).

The car is completely standard doesn’t even have a Miltek exhaust. The wheels are black as I wanted original VW wheels (and the bolt spacing is a nightmare) so replaced with all black as buying 4 black ones from ebay was cheaper than VW wanting £450 for a new one, original wheel got a hairline crack.

So one of my favourites just from phone so not too staged. My wife things should sell it and used we buy any car... I told her that it’s worth more than their estimate of £450!!!

So should I sell or should it go now??

Incidentally is 3 door more valuable than 5 door?? - my reckoning 5 door fits kids and surfboard far better, thoughts?

So still got her and again thinking of selling. But not sure what to go for. Probably got a £5k budget but want something fun still. Suggestions welcomed.

I've always liked these. Keep it. Looks great in your pics (wheels aren't black any more?).

For me, 5 door is better, more practical, looks better, but others may think differently.
Still got the powder coated black ones on, if I refrub will go back to silver (still got 3 originals)

So update for you, been offered an 2003 Audi A4 Convertible for £1500. Cam belt done last June and it’s done 2000 miles since, 100,000 total. MOT until December. Something to drive around in the sun for a bit of fun. Wife and 9 year old always wanted a convertible.

All good I think, but know little about the 1.8 turbos ... any good? Anything should watch for?

Also means can keep the Golf.

I've also bought one a few months ago, but the diesel. The 1.8T ideally needs a sump drop and pickup clean/change as they are very prone to sludging and picking up crap (with the inevitable turbo death and low engine oil pressure engine death). Generally quite tough apart from that, a mate's mother has a 2003 163bhp remapped to 190bhp quattro since 2005. Lifetime average something like 32mpg. What spec is it? I think they drive very well, the 1.8T more a boulevardier as it's an 1800kg car.
It’s just the average ‘T’ spec so no special trick bits but as we unlikely to go on holiday this year then may as well run about in this. 32mpg sounds better than my Golf. Sorry for the naivety but I don’t get what you mean by ‘boulevardier’ - appears to be a Campari based drink?! Do you mean sort of love or hate?!

So just got the Golf back and a quick blast home, confirmed that she isn’t going anyway fast (probably the wrong phrase).

For those interested, I’ve still got her and the wife. Although got a works van now and rarely driven, the Audi went too and made a bit of cash.
