Classic car Sales: Dealer or Auction ?
Discussion
Hi, I have read a number of articles with named companies both good and bad and rang two classic car dealers.
I just wondered through experience of the members if for classic cars do you tend to use an auction house like classiccars and silverstone or do you go more for a classic car dealer of that car type
I have been speaking to a dealer who explained the process they use, which sounds similar to an estate agent and they would host the car.
I have also read reviews of the auction houses.
A private sale is not really an option for one of the cars TBH.
So wanted to draw on member experience.

Cheers for that they look similar to how another one works which I have contacted.
At least then its a fair comparison, I will contact both.
A few dealers have been honest in that if they cant see it they cant get a value on it. It not the easiest of time when some of these companies are 6 hours away.
Main issue its a tricky one to value, as its almost a classic replica !

That's been really helpful I have contacted three of the auction sites and will see how it goes.
2 are where the seller pays the fees and also have a query in with Silverstone.
Hoping the photos and video walk throughs will be enough to get some idea of reserve price.
The idea will be to almost trial it with the cheaper BWM first before putting the Porsche through !

The Porsche is on hold at the moment while we try the selling of a1985-bmw-e28-m535i on one of the auction sites above.
Which is ok as have had chance to go out in it a few times !!
Experience so far has been the photos we did and video were no where really near the quality they wanted.
This resulted in a payment to a photographer. A lot of details were asked about the car which on this model was fairly easy as my father in law knew the car from new, and the actual previous owners.
So far a number of questions have been asked and a few people wanting a call back. It's on for a week so will report back the end to end experience.
Been ok so far...
