Having 3 young kids has effectively ruled out about 90% of nice cars that can be 'man maths'd' into being family cars due to the rear seats - Aston Rapide / DBS, Porsche Panamera, 911, Maserati Gran Turismo, even semi sensible stuff like Mercedes S-class AMG coupe.

So what's the best way to transport 3 kids, a wife and some luggage about, while still feeling like you're in something special without going 4x4?

The only things I can really think of are RS6 Avant, Porsche Taycan or some flavour of fast Tesla. (Not a BMW fan personally and usually not keen on Audi, RS6 aside)

Any other options?

A 1.0 Honda civic and an S2000 for fun works for me. Appreciate this might not be a helpful suggestion. wink
A workaround for sure... But not entirely what I'm after!

Surely there is a market for cars like the Panamera / Rapide etc to have 3 rear seats?

Budget, age of kids, number of car seats....

There are only ever 3 answers!
Think you might be right here. Shame there isn't something a little different from the usual German suspects

Not sure the E53 nails it, E63s and you get my vote.

M5 competition if you can get past it being a bmw

Panamera sport turismo
Great shout - I didn't realise the Sport Turismo had 3 rear seats. I had a first gen Panamera turbo and loved it.

What about the Jaguar XFR-S estate thing too? Cracking cars.

Good shout. I have a diesel XF at the moment. It's getting a bit old, and I'm not sure it's 'special' in the way an Aston or Porsche is, but would definitely be an RS6 alternative.

Doesn't the Nanny drive the kids in a discovery, while you and missus take the Aston / Ferrari?
Yeah obviously, but the mrs mentioned something about spending more time with the kids...

In my experience (7 years with 3 kids) nothing mentioned so far will be spacious enough - the middle seat is always a huge comprimise. I've yet to find a car with a wide enough rear bench to accomodate 3 proper isofix boosters. You can buy small inflatable "travel" boosters but they not designed to be a permanent solution. And as they get older elbow room becomes an issue.

My next family wagon will be either a Disco 5 or XC90 and I'm leaning heavily towards the Volvo. In T8 guise it's got poke (not much but some) and the percieved quality is great.

I'm lucky (or unlucky when it comes to sleep) that they are all under 6, so even a token middle seat should be OK. Realistically the RS6 seems to be the only viable option
