I need a new family car but struggling with what to get as there is so much choice.

Family is wife and 2 kids (with a dog being the newest addition)

This car will be for me to use on my commute to work 2/3 days a week (around 25 miles each way), short trips to the shops and taking kids to clubs, sports, friends houses etc... Longer trips maybe a couple of times a year to see family (200 miles each way eek). Boot will need to be a decent size as we like to go camping in the UK in the summer. To give an example, my old car was an Insignia and the boot was big enough in that to get everything in....just.

Wife would like a SUV/mini SUV type thing but i think the main reason for this is the raised driving position. Automatic gearbox with petrol/hybrid engine but we don't have a charging point so will need to be self charging if that's even possible (excuse my ignorance, i'm not really a car person). Android auto would be amazing but not a blocker.

I think those are the main things but i love tech in a car so the more extras the better, lane assist, parking sensors/cameras, cruise control, auto lights/wipers. Basically, anything cool!

I would prefer comfort/luxury over speed but don't want anything too sluggish. When i put my foot down, i want the car to react.

I was a passenger in a friends 2017 Audi Q3 the other day and that felt lovely to ride in and probably along the lines of what type of car i'm looking for here.

I hope this is enough to go on but understand budget may be a limiting factor. Budget is £14,000-£16,000 but could stretch a bit for the right car.

Thanks and let me know if you need any other information.

Sounds like a Q3 would be a good place to start. I reckon you can get a half decent XC60 for that too.

If you’re keen on hybrid I would take a look at a PHeV Outlander by Mitsubishi. Your budget should see a decent 14-16 reg model.
They were both cars i was looking at so good to know i'm in the right ballpark. I liked the idea of the hybrids as we do so many short trips to the shops, ferrying kids around that i thought it would benefit.

Sounds like your mileage is low enough to look for a petrol car instead of diesel.

Budget is useful too.

I think the small mpv sector is quickly becoming a bit of a thing of the past, and the qashqai becoming the weapon of choice
What is the small mpv sector? Is that the sector i'm looking in?

And yes, petrol over diesel is preferred for us.
