Hello everybody,
I'm from France and own a TVR 2500M from 1972 (2244TM ; one of the earliest).
I've got a big problem about the rear shocks of my car.
Mu garagist bought some (shocks with new coil springs) to David Gerald, changed them, but they are like wood if i could say.
The back of my car is as solid than a piece of metal.
David Gerald told to my garagist that the right parts are not available anymore.
My garagist told me that the best idea is to put some weight at the back of the car to get pressure on them.
Or to send them back to David Gerald to modify them (excuse me, but i think that it's not really the best way to get a secure car)
These two solutions are impossible for me.
What would be your best idea about this problem ?
Somebody knows what are the correct shocks with springs ? Where can i find some ?
Many thanks
Kind regards
Jerome

Hello everybody

some news from the returning man from Africa (south africa, bostwana, zambia, zimbabwe and mozanbique) !
that was great, beautiful, with a lot of different experiences !

Now, the subject of my TVR
No news of my garagist even if i call him 5 times this week only !
So i've asked to David Gerald the brand of the dumpers : AVO with this famous button that allows you to regulate the stiffness.

I know that the dampers are on the softness position (i tried by regulating the dampers on the tw extreme position, and nothing change : the car is like a piece of wood in the two positions)

so i'm sure now that the problem comes from the springs.

I've asked D. Gerald what is the ratio of my actual springs to check if some softer exist.

So, i work on this problem !!!!

If somebody has some AVO's like these, is it possible to know what is your type of springs ?

Cheers

Hi everybody
So, i took off the dumpers from the back and will send them back to David Gerald at the end of next week as they are closed next week.
Doug from David Gerald was really sad that these didn't match to my car ; he asked me to send them back to him and will check and fix the problem.
By the way, as my car is lift on "candles" (i don't know if it's the correct word in english but we call these kind of metal triangle like this in french), i ordered him some new for the front ; i'm sure the result will be better instead of changing only the rear ones.
I will tell you the final story when i will have fix everything on my car !
Many thanks for your help !
I will need some more help i think to have the right height for my car (2500M from 1972) ; i know with my cerbera that you have to calculate this height from chassis to ground.
If somebody know the right figures, thanks !

To answer the last question, my garagist bought them to David Gerald i think 8 months ago.
And, from the beginning, the car was like wood at the back.
That's why i send them back to David Gerald to check everything, but the ons i have are the same thant the last picture on this topic

What a mess to take off the front bumpers !

Everything is rusted, and, the bolts are so old that they are too used to turn...

It's impossible for me to grab then with my grip key.

But i am not leaving this affair like this !

Have a nice Christmas !

Hello,

before fixing front and rear dumpers, one question i just thought about and i don't have the answer cause it's not written in the owner manual.

I'm sure that, as on the cerbera, there is a height to respect at the front and at the back, i'm quite sure between ground and chassis...

Correct or not ?

And what is the perfect height to have ?

Many thanks for your answers, as usual, professional !

So,

I'm going to send the rear dampers to david gerald tomorrow as they are closed until the 3rd of january.

I orderd them the front dampers by the way, as i imagine it's better to change all four at once and give the same specialist the total case.

The front i took off from the car seem to be very old, nearly as new as the car !!!! Nearly 40 years now as the car was the 5th built (chassis number 2244TM and the first one was the 2240).
The height is betwee 42 and 43cm and the width is 9cm (diameter of the spring).

I hope they will give me the perfect products to have a perfect car.

I asked them by the way as i mentioned it before i think what is the perfect height to have at the front and the back between chassis and ground.

If somebody have great advice on this point, he is really welcome as i think it's better to have several opinions and to make its own idea.

Thanks again for your help !

Cheers

Hello everybody
Some news .
All the suspensions are fixed ; it was quite difficult for me as the car is parked in a public garage and as i'm not so rich in tools !
Now is the Time to set them up!
I will follow the trick of the two fingers : one of the efficient rule to pilot little planes ! So i'm sure it will work!
I read on the internet these datas:
183mm for the rear ones between ground and the basis (under it) of the outrigger in front of the wheel
159mm for the front ones with the same method

What do you think about that?

Cheers

Hello

to answer the last question, no, definitely no !

Maybe can you contact Doug by David Gerald and ask him what are the technical informations ?

I think he knows me quite well and the story is really new.

Ask him about the Jerome Domenec case ; i'm sure he will give you all details
