Hi everybody,

I baught a TVR Taimar last autumn, with salisbury diff and 4 speed gearbox (no OD).

a very good car, with a very good restoration.

I would like to upgrade my engine for a fast road use (not track).

I can invest £2000 for the parts (I can tune the engine myself).
I would like around 180bhp and around 220 lb ft torque with a great torque curve between 2000rpm and 5000rpm.

what parts do you recommend ?

and what good brake setup you recommend ?

thank you,
Simon.

Hi,

thank you for your answers.

I don't want a turbo, otherwise I would have bought the Taimar turbo from AC Rooney.

so, I need a new camshaft, a new ignition system... ?

my cooling system is in good condition.

ok, great, tank you very much.

the most important for me is to find a good balance between power and torque.

I ride mostly between 2500rpm and 4500rpm, so the torque is essential.

Hi,

more power, more power... yes, I think this car must have around 180bhp and 220 lb/ft to be a very great car.
but I'm ok to say that the car is actually great too.

my last cars was a TVR S1 and a Chimaera 400hc.

If I change the engine, it would be for a rover V8... but it's a big job and the car is not as the original spec.

I think to buy a second V6 essex and tune it

Here's one ready to go - £4000.00.

Probably cost you more for the parts.

yes, I saw this advert, but the engine is not very good for road use.

I prefer to have a lot of torque and just a bit more power.

Hi everybody,

I found a reconditioned V6 essex to tune. for remember, I'm looking for 180bhp and 200 lb/ft torque, and a strong engine between 2000rpm and 5000rpm.
I give you my project:

- K/N filter
- fast road cam (like kent V63)
- crank/rods/pistons/flywheel lightened and balanced.
- cylinder heads stage 2
- janspeed (or Tony Law ?) manifolds
- steel timing gear

about the brake system ?
- stainless steel hoses + DOT4
- what pads ?

about chassis:
quaife system in the original salisbury.

your opinion ?

thank you,
Simon.

Fine, but you have blown your 2K budget somewhat!!
not really, because I found an engine with some of the work already done.
I only have it:
- K/N filter
- cylinder heads stage 2
- janspeed (or Tony Law ?) manifolds
- steel timing gear

for brake system and LSD, I had already planned budget.

It will also give you back some of the low down and mid range responsiveness you loose when you fit bigger valves and higher lift cams.
really ? I thaught it was the opposite... big bore for big upgrade with a lot of power and small bore for a standard engine or little tuned.

Hi,

some news, my engine is at home (thank you Mike), and ready to replace the standard engine.

engine reconditionned with:
- K/N filter
- fast road cam from SE
- cranckshaft/pistons/flywheel balanced and lightened
- cylinder head stage 1
- steel timing gear

just 2 questions, what is the difference between standard cylinder head and Stage 1 ?
and what do you think on wrapping the manifolds to reduce heat in the engine compartment ?

Simon.
