CSI ignition on a TVR 2500M

Hello,
I received from CSI the curves related to the Triumph TR6/250/5 engines.
With a standard engine, CSI recommends :
"An advance of 10 degrees from idle speed and a maximum advance of 30 degrees."
"You can try 4 and 8 first."
"With somewhat higher compression ratios, the max. Advance should be less, the curve 1,2,3,5,6 or 7 is intended for that."
Questions to the members having experience with the tuning of elec. ignitions (not my case...):
- What's a low/high compression version ?
- Which types curves I should test first ? 1..4 or 5..8 ?
- Do you think that these 2 types of curves are so different ?
- Do you think that the curves 5-8 are more critical for the engine (at long term) ?
"At low compression values "American versions" the advance can be more (curves 9,10,11,12,13,14,15 or 16)"
Apparently not advised by CSI for my case... but why they mention "American versions" ?
