He won't lose. He never does.

There will be a clause in the contract that states that if the hosts can't fulfill security obligations then they owe him X amount of cash.

The only people that lose are the fans and the people in that opressed nation. The Bahrainis could st money and not notice. A £50 mil forfeit is nothing.

If indeed it does get cancelled this year, as is looking more likely as the days roll on, would it not make more sense to enter negotiations with either Dubai Autodrome or Losail to have a race? Given the situation in Dubai & Qatar seems to be more stable than elsewhere in the region, that would allow them to continue to hold a Middle Eastern race. Or am I being too rational?
Yes.

Well Napoleon and Blofeld seemed certain that it would go ahead.

It will be a real shame if it does, even if DRS would make the circuit vaguely interesting.

I have grave forbodings about this.

I just can't see how the Bahrainian authorities can protect the hundreds of team members, the GP2 teams, the media personell, the dozens of marshalls and the thousands of spectators from some sort of attack over the four days of the event.

Is the place going to be completely locked down with a curfew for the citizens, especially the shi-ite citizens?
I don't see how it can go ahead.

If it does it'll be daft. Will Brundle still have a hug on the grid with the crown prince? will there even be any spectators?

If only the GPDA would boycott it. Let's face it, FOTA are dead in the water. The GPDA is the only "organisation" that has any power. The FIA (Toad) seem to not be aware of any "issues" in the country. Bernie isn't arsed either way. I doubt he'll be there if it does go ahead. The teams are bound by the FIA even if FOTA did decide to do anything.

It's a fking mess. If they go, they will look like a laughing stock internationally.

Likewise.

I'm surpised some F1 personell, including Jake & BBC team are flying to Bahrain tonight, you'd think they would stop in Dubai or Abu Dhabi until Thursday and turn up at BIC as late as they possibly can.
Wouldn't it be great if they did the whole show wearing "war correspondant" clobber. Flak jackets and helmets throughout the broadcast.

I don't think any money has gone to McLaren Racing.

Regardless of how safe it is for those involved in F1, F1 is a huge 'machine' with massive worldwide coverage. F1 has the ability to make a standpoint and IMO they should. Bahrain has an awful situation going on and regardless of fault, needs big hitters (non military) from the outside to push for change.

Bahrain GP should not go ahead.
Agreed.

Unfortunately morals etc are not high on Brother Bernard's agenda.

It's getting awfully last minute. I can see everyone turning up and being in a muddle on friday.

It's more than a bit untenable after that.

The only question left is "is the prime minister going to fk the pig?"

The reputable broadcasters are showing this delayed-live anyway, so there's little risk of a TV delay

For those watching Chav-Prix on Sky, you can watch the dramas live. But if you've paid Murdoch, you really don't care about morals and civil rights anyway wink

They all have adjustable break bias.

Amazing to watch them set it up differently for different corners.

Won't be long until that is managed by a computer too.
It's expressly forbidden in the regulations.

hypocrite

If you had "morals" you wouldn't watch the Chinese or Bahrain race in human rights grounds. So your purely a hypocritical "anti SKY" idiot, or just a troll.

What a wonderful addition to my inbox. rolleyes

I'm sure there are plenty of people who post regularly in General Motorsport and on PH in general who would vouch for me not being a troll. As to your other accusation, no I'm not anti-sky at all.

Anyway, I don't reply to emails from people I don't know/have some knowledge on PH, so excuse me for being rude and not replying.

You have "morals" but watch a race where people have died to highlight the democratic issues in their country, but I lack morals by paying to watch for a sport I love over those watching net streams or illegal downloads.

Post that in full and unedited

I should, for clarity's sake, state that I have already said on this thread in answer to him that I have not watched the chinese gp or this race, which seems to be what I'm being accused of.

Anyway, apparently I'm not the only one getting these emails. Shame, I thought I was special. frown
