2022: BTCC and support series
Discussion
A lot of changes next year;
The Hybrid era: No Ballast
Ginetta V8’s:
https://www.ginetta.com/news/ginetta-gt4-supercup-...
New Porsches: Hope they will be just as entertaining.
F4: New Chassis / Engine combo.
No doubt a lot of driver changes too.
Could be a very interesting season.
A thread for speculation & gossip.

Sure they mentioned that the Porsche series will be using a new car next year too, just can't remember the exact numbers.
Looking forward to the Minis again.
The ‘992’ Up from 480bhp to 510.Looking forward to the Minis again.
Lots of changes under the skin & bit more aero.
Minis: Will be interesting to see if anybody can make the move up.
( or a Bobby Thompson return in either)

The Ginetta grid will be a mix of existing G55s and the new V8 G56s. Personally I think there will be more G55s than G56s.
The new Porsche looks mega!
Apparently, Colin White has purchased a G56...going to mix it with the big boys. The new Porsche looks mega!
Wonder how they will compare in lap times.
Adam Smalley... is in the last four for the Porsche drive.
( So will have to wait & see what happens there)
Tim & Paul seem excited...

Yes, Colin has bought one. I know of two others who have too. I imagine Colin will still be in the Am (or ProAm as it’s now known) Class.
Mike Simpson was out in the G56 in Friday testing at Brands and it was roughly a second faster round a lap of the GP circuit than the G55. Pretty much the same pace as the current Porsche Cup car.
Wow, thanks... pretty rapid then. Mike Simpson was out in the G56 in Friday testing at Brands and it was roughly a second faster round a lap of the GP circuit than the G55. Pretty much the same pace as the current Porsche Cup car.
Bet they sound great too.

Have to admit the lack of interesting supports for me is a reason I di not visit BTCC much.
A lot of it is very samey same make stuff, I get why but it appeals as much as a pain in the wotsit.
it works though, but it has never tickled my fancy at all to be honest

Think F4... needs a bigger grid.

I'm guessing F4 may dwindle a bit next year given the new GB4 (?) series taking a lot of drivers with aspirations of moving up the ladder. Bit of a shame if it does.
Ginetta Juniors are always good to watch, Robert De Haan must be a fair shout for the championship if he returns - Good effort this year as a rookie.
GB4... New one to me, interesting reading.Ginetta Juniors are always good to watch, Robert De Haan must be a fair shout for the championship if he returns - Good effort this year as a rookie.
I suppose the Live TV coverage could be a major factor in their decisions.
I have always preferred saloons to single seaters anyway.
Perhaps it’s time for them to be replaced with another saloon series... but not one make.
Somewhere in between Ginetta Juniors & Minis, to follow that progression ladder.
Maybe it could be classed structured like years ago, a lot of variety producing the David v Goliath type racing.

I think that there are still a few grey areas to be sorted out.

Silly question, but how do the BTCC teams actually make money? (As in profit). With the cost of the car builds, premesis, consumables, paying all the staff, hospitality etc. Yes the drivers bring sponsorship, but surely that doesn't cover the entire running costs (and more) for the entire team?
As they say, the only silly / stupid question... is the one that is never asked.Edited by Milkyway on Saturday 30th October 11:24

Looks like Chilton has left his current team.
I thought that it didn’t sound too promising. In the Right car he is still a top ten contender though.
( Happier In FWD though).
Regarding the budgets though... I can’t see the hybrid systems being that cheap.
( At least they can scrap the weights)

Tom Oliphant steps aside from 2022 season as he's moving out of the country.
Drive available at wsr and cant see jelly being back neither.
Thanks for the heads up... Australia is a bit of a commute to be honest. Drive available at wsr and cant see jelly being back neither.
“I’ll be back”... maybe.

F4... Looks impressive.
But wonder how it will fare against the MSV GB4 Championship.
Very similar...but GB4, allegedly cheaper, less TV coverage, but very closely related to the GB3 cars.

So sad to hear of Sir Frank Williams passing.
He will be sorely missed. RIP

At the BTCC "Night of Champions" (last Saturday evening at Straford upon Avon), Steve Rider commented that he was discussing a new award with Jade Edwards. The new award was to be "the most disruptive driver at the back of the field".
"That would be neat," replied Jade...
