Couldn't see a thread for this season, so....

Qualifying underway for first (double-header) race weekend.

Have to say; I'm liking the new quali head-to-head set up fro this year, so far.

Pole for Vandoorne, Dennis in P2

That made for a good quali setup and session.

It was a good race, without being desperately exciting, but a few god action moments.

Thanks for the heads up...completely missed that the season had started!

Just watched race 1 on Youtube.

I've tried to Google it, but I'm a bit useless. Why no Giovinazzi?
He was in it, just right at the back the whole race.

Well, what a dork I turned out to be! He was so far back never on the graphic. Cheers thumbup
I get why you missed him wink. Bit sad really, but it's probably a bit of a learning curve coming out of F1, with little practice - let's hope he gets up to speed quickly.

What I like about FE is that the grid can't be guaranteed in advance - quite a different group going into shoot-outs, with a few of yesterday's faster drivers struggling a bit today.

Giovinazzi and Ticktum still struggling, Askew doing a bit better.

Was a good race and building nicely when the SC ruined it.

Guess you didn't watch it. It didn't finish under the safety car.
The intent of the new rules was not to have cars finish (or have to finish) with "fake" battery levels, so new rules were to add laps (like BTCC), but there's a limit and if the race would have finished under SC for car recovery reasons, nothing has changed.

Just watching this as my better half recorded it yesterday.

I haven't watched much FE before, but what's with the attack mode crap? might as well have Sonic running along chasing coins.

Off to make some lunch instead.
It's no more or less artificial than DRS or mandatory tyre use in F1.....

Crystal Maze is less contrived that FE
No more or less contrived than DRS, enforced tyre stops, mandated use of different tyre grades, and any other method used across any racing platform to balance performance or ensure close racing. Any race series that isn't truly "open" (and how many of those are their really?) has "contrivances". What's your point?

Cheap shots and cheap trolling - be more constructive in your criticisms and enjoy the fact that's there's a huge range of motor racing available to cater for those with disparate interests..........oh, wait just seen the poster wink

Don't know if it was a deliberate ploy by Porsche to push into an extra lap, but it sure made a mess behind them!

Plus, how good was Montara in quali crossing the line sideways in a cloud of smoke to set a reasonable time;

This is the first 2022 quali I've watched. The side by side 'live' in car of the first 1v1 threw me at first, but it's the first driver delayed shown side by side live with the second driver hehe . The ones after that showing one car with the +- chart at the side makes more sense.
It's good that they don't use it all the time, as smaller picture, etc, but it is pretty clever doing live/delayed split to show comparison. I like it.

The Mercedes EQ team has been acquired my McLaren, so the silver cars will be orange next year https://twitter.com/McLarenF1/status/1525362992526...
McLaren are really expanding into any/all forms of (decent) motorsport, so now that makes: F1, IndyCar, FE, Extreme E, all as main name, branded teams.

I can't think of any other team with such a diverse spread of effort - hope it doesn't reduce input / effort in any of them.
