Sorry about the other race report chaps. I had a few too many blue smarties - you know what those E numbers can do!!

Anyway, this is what really happened in the first race at Thruxton:

I arrived at the circuit with my knees knocking. All the other guys are so good, and I only managed 4 laps of Rockingham before I got too scared and faked an engine failure. Hope TVR won’t be too miffed when they take the engine apart and find there’s nothing wrong with it.

I went out for practice and it was all a bit of a circus. The better drivers kept coming right up close – there was really no need for it.

Wayne (No 5) has been telling me all season how difficult it is to be a Tuscan racing driver, and that I will spend most of my time at the back of the field – that is when I manage to avoid spinning off. Well he was right, and I went off twice in practice, the second time smashed the rear wheel rim.

Rod (No 29) has been great – in fact he’s become something of a father figure to me since I started in Tuscans. He just told me to slow down and I’d be ok. So I followed his advice – and hey – I didn’t spin once in Qualifying. Plus Uncle Rodney told me if I did what he said I would have a really good view of the start – I would be able to see all the cars in front of me, and not have to worry about looking in the mirrors.

As usual Uncle Rodney was right – I had the best seat in the house for the start – and no-one tried to drive too close to me. Poor Uncle Rodney was bundled off the track by his so-called team mate - I felt really sorry for him – what was Jan thinking?!

I carried on around the track and came across a very nice green car that seems to change colour when you look at it. It was a bit scary, but the nice man waved me past.

The same thing happened on the next lap – Mr Marshall pulled to one side. And on the next lap too – that New Zealand chap let me go past. It really was going very well, but I couldn’t help thinking that Uncle Rodney might have had a word with the other drivers. Uncle Rodney knew how disappointed I was at Rockingham, and I think he may have asked some of the other guys to let me beat them to boost my confidence.

What happened next was just terrible. Poor No 5 was hit by No 20 – and No 20 didn’t even stop to give his insurance details!!!! I thought I had better do the decent thing and get No 20’s registration number in case No 5 wanted to report it, so I set off after him. But No 20 was too clever, he made me go past him so I couldn’t read his number plate.

Then No 5 was really kind – he knew No 20 was being a bit nasty, so he put his car between us, so if No 20 tried the same thing again, No 5 would take the hit and I wouldn’t get my nice shiny car all scratched. But poor No 5 had no luck at all - something fell off his car and despite all his skill, he spun off.

I was very lucky that No 5 had warned off No 20 - after that No 20 stayed well clear. I was really surprised that I finished 9th. Thank goodness for Uncle Rodney and Wayne. I don’t know what I would have done without them.....
