Roundabout Positioning

I wonder if you guys can help me?

My partner has suggested that I approach this roundabout incorrectly as I approach from the left hand lane and turn right, however there is 2 lanes off right so surely how I have suggested is acceptable? There is no lane markings on approach however the left hand lane continues around the island to the right.

In this instance left is a very minor village road, and straight on is back on same road. I cannot believe they have 1 lane just for the minor road while theres a queue of 10-15 cars waiting to turn right.
