Yes. Well spotted. The monocoque is pretty much done - beyond my expertise so being built by Classic Car Developments in NZ.

I did put the engine together though....

Oh my, that looks like it's going to be noisey!
These will quiet it down.... a bit. Another client's headers but mine are the same.

Bodywork has finally arrived from massachusetts. Now it will hopefully start to look a little more like a car rather than some weird metal origami...

Thanks. It is my partner's. She has kept it bog standard apart from the wheels. A heap of fun to drive.

No, not a kit. Monocoque built to original dimensions and specifications. Engine is a 351W with Weber 48IDAs. Transaxle is ZF DS25/1. It will end up basically a MKI but with MKII rear bodywork, simply because I like the look. An added bonus is that the extra room afforded by the MKII rear gives a little more clearance to accommodate the 1" extra deck height the 351 has over the original 289 or 302.

Transaxle.

Started on the long slog of prepping the bodywork today. As a lot of you will know, sanding is unbelievably dusty and soul destroying, but all the mould lines on the rear clip are now sanded down. Imperfections are filled and sanded as well and the whole clip has had a once over with 80 grit paper. Fine sanding to come…. As a reward at the end of the day I cut out the area above the engine and cut holes for the rear brake intake snorkels, shaped their bases and loosely fitted them. Finally, cut holes for the taillights and trial fitted them also. Doesn’t look too shabby. I suspect the front clip is going to be a whole lot more difficult….

Using a very simple jig and my trusty router I cut slots in the rear spoiler over the weekend and trial mounted it.

Finding time to do stuff is the biggest issue at the moment. However, quietly plugging away at the bodywork. All holes for lights and indicators now cut and glassed in the headlight mounting plates last night.

Cut out the panels that cover the rear of the headlight and driving light recesses last night, then fitted them using rivnuts. Looks a bit rough at first glance, but that is the plastic coating on the aluminium...

I'm in Dunedin. I know Grant Aitken's SPF at Highlands Park. Not seen the other two. Where is your Dad's?

Cheers.

Shaped a pair of aluminium 'spacers' needed to hold the perspex part in the air scoop for the transaxle last night.

Cut out and drilled the rear window last weekend - nervous times drilling and countersinking the holes. Drilled holes in the bodywork and trial mounted today.

Been pottering away on the bodywork over the last few weekends. Lights all fitted now and light covers all trimmed to size, drilled and countersunk. Since I'm going for the early MKII look, as in the white car pictured, I made and fitted a divider for the single nostril and fitted hinges to the nostril panel with Dzus fasteners at the front. Some gapping to do, but coming together...

CR6ZZ, if you dont mind me asking, what size are thoes CR6ZZ tyres, im not far away from getting my bodywork and am starting to sort out chassis details along with proposed wheels and tyres. cant find much to fit a 12" wide 15" diameter rim. i would like to get some gulf flares. have you got 10" wide rear rims?

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

regards Ryan
Sorry about the slow response ezakimak. The tyres are 215/60VR15 fronts and 295/50VR15 rears. Rims are from Image Wheels - 8.5 x 15 front; 12 x 15 rear.

Rear grille finally fabricated and fitted.

Not a huge amount of progress of late as I have been (a) really busy with other stuff, and (b) away overseas...

However, body now fully prepped and away to be fitted on the chassis.

Bell housing received from the UK...

and machined and fitted,

other bell housing bits sourced from the US,

also trial fitted,

and lastly, the brakes (as per 1968 and 69 Gulf cars) have arrived from the UK. Calipers are Girling 16/4 rear and 18/4 front.
