After selling the XM, I have been on the look out for something to replace it. I believe I have now found it and I'm off shortly on a roadtrip to go and get it.

This time the trip is only to Dunstable rather than Ipswich, and I'm getting a lift opposed to the train.

My journey starts at 9am.

French again. Autotrader advert at a large car sales place.

Car sales place clearly don't know what they have and are selling it as the wrong model

That's it. Don't think they know what they have. This will be my second Activa, and the only car I have had two of. It's a late phase 2 car.

Anyway, my journey has started. My first lift from home to Eastleigh

Yep, very clever car...if its all working correctly. I took my old one to the alps twice. Here is the picture.

I sold it with 143k and a slipping clutch in the end.

Home now after my trip to see the Activa. My day started in the civic, followed by a blast up to motorway to Dunstable in a saxo vts

We arrived at the worst car lot in the world full of utter crap, including this lambo....

To find this very tired, unloved xantia Activa.

The stop light was on constantly, the bodywork was in bits and the brake lights didn't work. The guy was on his own and wasn't overly keen on getting it out unless I was really interested at the price, shown as £499.

I really should have walked away, but we fitted a new battery and started it up. It sounded spot on. I was interested, but not at that money.

It was still reasonable value at that price, but it was time to play hardball. I offered £300, which was rejected, then £350. For this I would take the car away as it is, without driving it, and without his one week warranty. A deal was struck for £370, to include the tax (end of Jan) and I drove it away.

My first port of call was the local halfords for some LHM.

Twelve quid later, and the stop light issue was fixed.

I then stuck twenty quid of fuel in it, and set about the 2hr drive home, where I am now. I even made it without breaking down.

Initial reactions are good. The spheres need replacing as the ride is rock solid, but crucially the Activa part works, and the car doesn't lean. I need to fix the brake lights, along with a few other small jobs. The bodywork is in a bad way, but can be saved.

The interior isn't too bad, if you ignore the wood

It has a 6 cd changer in the boot, and a traffic master button too. I need the key code for the radio tho.

Oh, and I found a quid in the ashtray, so this one cost me £369.

Once upon a time it was a vtr....

Anyway, brake lights fixed! The switch on the pedal was unclipped.....was this car about to be used as an attempt at insurance fraud?!

Yep, just need to find one in silver!

Anyway, final update for tonight. I have removed the 3 remaining mud flaps.

This is how it stands for now.

Great find!

I wouldnt even bother with the bodywork - its an honest £400 car and it looks all the better for it!

What happened to the XM? frown
He got bored and sold out.

I agree, a little patina does it no harm. Run it till it needs something expensive and then move on IMHO.
Can't agree on this one. These things are rare and deserve to be looked after. One has just gone on eBay for significantly more than I paid.

Indeed, overlooked the fact it's an Activa. Apologies.
No apology needed. It's just a xantia to most, including my Mrs!

At the risk of sounding stupid, what's the deal with this car? I'm with your Mrs here (not literally) - it just seems like a Xantia to me.

For the uneducated on here tell us about this carsmile
Pretty much as above. The car has an active ram front and rear which basically keeps the car level as it corners. It can 0.98g round a corner, which was more than a lot of supercars of its time.

On the journey home that little Saxo was having real trouble keeping up around corners.

I may have to convince Si to pop a V6 in it biggrin
Was it really? I was hardly trying as the ride is too firm atm.

This one could be ripe for a V6 conversion one day....

Good demo of what these are like around bends, even if the driver is a massive codpiece for doing it on the road:

You mention the Xnatia is st, yet you want to find one with the V6. You confuse me?
st car=non performance car, nothing to do with the car itself just with its performance

I dont want the 1.6 or the 1.8 but the V6 is preferable as it's decent performance wise,i get these are no sports cars but the V6 gets close to it,i have at least seen 3 LHD ones on different shows in UK,as i spend my time in Europe mostly i guess is no trouble finding one in France or Italy.

First i thought the "Activa" was a trim available only with the low powered 1.6s or max 150 hp 2.0s with the suspension included.
Sorry, I had removed my reply.

The car has a 2ltr Turbo in the UK, with 150bhp as standard. A simple bleed valve will see that increase by a significant amount. The performance isn't too shabby, and there is very little between it and the V6.

It was a bargin, but don't be fooled, I'm looking at blowing at the very least twice the purchase price to get it up to scratch.

Did you do silly speeds around corners?

Not much happening with mine at the moment. I have ordered a replacement front Droplink and am trying to source a job lot of the ten spheres before it goes to southways for a suspension overhaul. I cannot wait till its riding perfectly.
