Million mile Mondeo Pt2
Discussion
As some people may have noticed the previous thread was removed as I managed to upset a few peApple with my updates.
Thought I'd start the thread again albeit in a more restrained manner
BIG UPDATE.
Or for my continental friends
Car has another 21 months in service before being put out to pasture(I fancy a stripped/caged estate track car)
So aiming for a sensible 1/2 million before retirement

Then why not thread title 1/2 million mile Mondeo Pt 2
I did wonder of the original thread would see it thro to a mill mile conclusion hence why I followed it
Well the car is going to stay with me after her taxi career endsI did wonder of the original thread would see it thro to a mill mile conclusion hence why I followed it
It's hard to explain but I've developed a bond with this one granted there's quite a few things I'd like to do that I can't until the taxi plates come off, once that happens well who knows where it will lead, I have a urge to track her

Tell that to the Munich taxis which are mostly all E classes.
quite a few covering big miles, know a few local airport transfer companies that have e classes plodding up and down the motorways all day covering huge figures, although these are normally disposed of before they hit 3 yr old, funnily enough the ones that surface a few weeks later on autotrader tend to have be missing a lot of the miles
Think it might all be over
Very taken with the new mk5 estates
And I can see me doing a deal to put one on the driveway this week at some point.
This leaves me a massive 15 foot long headache to deal with the current moon mileage Mondeo
She's just turned 5 year old and in tempted to just park her up as a spare taxi/track toy tip run car but seems such a waste
Anyone have any inkling what I should ask for if I put her up for sale
Very difficult to put a value on something with so many miles I know she's not worth a lot but where would you guys see her sitting personally I'm thinking put her up for £1200 with a few to getting a grand back.
Thoughts please

Another heavy couple of days Sunday/Monday
43 hours 2100 miles cruise on at an indicated 80 95% of the time 52 mpg very happy
currently showing 304k
Still haven't decided what's her fates going to be though, new Mondeo arrives on the 9th may I'm leaning towards backup car/let the wife have her for taking the dog out
well the new shed arrives on the 9th May provisionally.
still not too sure if i'll part with the bus. the thinking changes every 10 minutes at the moment.
1) sell her
2) use her as a general purpose dog/tip/ikea runabout.
3) track slag
checking oil and water this morning I found myself contemplating what would fit in the mk4 bay without major headaches, I reckon quite a few things Saab LP9 would make a strange but fun conversion,

After what can be considered a fairly extensive ownership of the Mk4 you'll have to let us know how the Mk5 compares.
The lack of decent engines puts me off and from what I can tell it's not meant to be *quite* as nice handling, albeit maybe a bit of a nicer cruiser.
Looks rather good though, especially IMO in estate form.
oh don't worry i'll be doing lots of comparing between the 2. heck if me and the mk5 don't get along you might just see the old shed pushed back into service The lack of decent engines puts me off and from what I can tell it's not meant to be *quite* as nice handling, albeit maybe a bit of a nicer cruiser.

in comparison though
the mk5 is an inch longer and an inch wider 10mm lower and 50kg lighter than my old one
exactly the same wheelbase funnily enough although the mk5 has 75 litres less bootspace and a smaller fuel tank(62 litres vs 70)
performance is identical despite the new model being 50kg lighter having an extra 10bhp and an extra 40lbs/ft torque (both 9.1 to 60 and top out at 130 mph in standard trim.
will go a bit more indepth once I get my hands on the thing
well bit of an update and a bit of a rant I'm afraid.
boring stuff out the way first
29-05 10117 miles Oil service
04-07 18826 miles Full service
07-07 19305 miles 2 front tyres (2x Uniroyal Rainsports)
11-08 27808 milesOil Service
19-08 New Windscreen and ADAS calibration.
26-08 30862 miles Taxi Test - Pass (woot)
27-09 37335 miles 2 front tyres (2x Unroyal Rainsports)
03-10 38339 miles full service and a set of front pads,
18-10 40902 miles 2 x rear tyres 2x Uniroyal Rainsports
29-11 49412 oil service,
02-01 55197 miles 2x Bridgestone potenzas on the font.
14-02 62038 Full service and 2x front tyres (Rainsports)
first problem we had after the last service was a definite wobble noticed at certain RPMs had the tracking and wheels balanced at the last service after binning the bridgestones(horrible tyre but that's another discussion for another time) and with further investigation it was found that both driveshafts are buggered.
so off to ford for a quick (read full day with them) check and confirmation that the drive shafts are indeed buggered and needing replaced. this was fine and car returned to me awaiting a phone call on parts coming into stock for a date to be booked for it to go back in for fitting.
then calamity 28th of Feb heading out to Edinburgh early bells, the Mondeo gave up the ghost and threw a wobbler. cut out restarted fine no EML then cut out again within a minute, done this a couple of times so pulled over and phoned the AA.
oil level far too high and it was showing fault codes for EGR and fuel pump pressure. long story short the dealers faffed about with it from the 28th of Feb until the 9th of March when they finally and with a lot of effort managed to diagnose a faulty fuel pump. Fuel pump ordered on the 10th for delivery Yesterday 13th promised car back today all fine and dandy (2 weeks lost earnings so far but hey ho its all good to go.
WRONG. quick call this morning expecting to get a rough time to go pick it up and it turns out the fuel pump never arrived at the dealers yesterday and the part is on back order with an ETA into stock of the 22nd there's no words that can describe just how peeved I am at both the dealer and Ford right about now. Dealer for being utterly shambolic with communication and the initial diagnosis and Ford for their supply chain issues and their Customer relationship centre being as much use as a fart in a space suit( you have to phone up go through data protection with a foreign call centre, be transferred to the UK call centre and go through data protection again, to then be told that the person that's dealing with your case Is busy and cant talk to you and that they are the only person that can deal with this and they'll call you back.
I do find it difficult to grasp that theres not a single fuel pump to be had anywhere in the UK for my Mondeo, yes its an expensive part but its a very common engine being fitted in umpteen different fords and numerous PSA vehicles. the only positive being that in the 2 weeks its been sitting in the dealers so far they have at least managed to fit my replacement drive shafts.
TLDR: Mondeos broken Dealer useless Ford not able to supply parts to fix off the road and not earning
that's said they did eventually give me a utterly awesome courtesy car at the end of last week
cant use it for work obviously, and i'm not allowed to take the dogs in it according to the dealer.
will update when I get some news from either Ford or the dealer. (might have to ask if I can go visit the big shed i'm missing her)

Old Mondeos run forever, new ones are a pile of ****
10 month old, broken. Ford cant fix it, rubbish on fuel, slower than my mk4, not as comfy and certainly not as agile round the twisties,
maybe the wonderful mechanics at the dealer can set fire to it with any luck and I can go buy a nice mk4

my previous Mk4 ran 300k plus and only issue was a broken alternator.
the mk5 is a pile of **** in comparison.
really feels like its been built to a budget unlike the mk4 which just felt solid all round.
more annoying is the fact the dealer spend a week and a half faffing about trying to diagnose the fault including a full day being spent by the dealers mastertech and Fords regional field engineer looking at it.
Really doesn't inspire you when Ford have trouble with diagnostics
