some of you may remember previous Mondeo taxi threads, with my many mile Mondeo,

well she now has a new baby sister to keep her company.

its a 2016 Mondeo Titanium, running a 2l tdci 150 engine.

This one will be hopefully clocking up somewhere in the region of 100k a year for the next 5 years

currently completely standard, and if your one of those pesky meddling types that like to report people to licencing authorities for example she'll be staying that way

err that doesn't count as a mod does it smile

passed her taxi inspection this morning all well and will be out earning her keep tomorrow.

First impressions are how rattle free it is compared to the mk4.5, how high she sits(which I honestly wont be doing anything about smile) and how annoying the gloss black interior trim is, had it a couple of hours and its a complete ust magnet.

Bookmarked. Looking forward to the updates, for a reason that's not entirely clear to me.
Will be a very boring thread covering nothing more than routine maintenance and some location shots

Custom stickers ftw

First impressions it's torquey more than a stock mk4.5 and not far off a mapped one (not that I would know)
It's quiet supposedly 3db quieter at motorway speeds than a 3 series
And it's HUGE thank god it's got sensors

edit upside down left handed phototaking ftl frown

Have I missed something? Why are you not using the other one anymore?
just fancied a new toy,

she's sitting on 310k miles now, and despite a heavy maintenance regime she is feeling tired.

YC - Get her from Leeds?

I can't work out the new Mondeo DRL situation (sad I know) - some have LEDs in the headlights, some in the fogs and some just have halogen bulbs? Also saw one with sweeping front indicators, ala Audi
yep, Ringway ford in Leeds.

the DRLs are down to if the car has the LED lights or not, LED lights, DRLs in the headlights, standard headlights, fitted into the fogs

Forgive my ignorance here chaps, but is it illegal to use a modified car as a taxi / private hire vehicle / whatever?
No. But all modifications must be approved by the local council/authority who take great delight in charging for the privilege

in other news, the old mk4.5 went to her new home today, Now in the good care of my friend Gerry anyone that visits RD tyres in Glasgow can pop by and say hello/have their picture taken with the 9th wonder of the world(a ford that doesnt break down)

next up for the new shed, some taxi plates and work

Well after the old Mondeo going to her new owner yesterday, he sent me a heart warming picture today of her enjoying her retirement with a family jaunt up to Pitlochry

well managed to put a 1000 miles on her so far,

some first impressions,

its a huge improvement over the mk4.5 quieter, more refined and certainly more torquey 150 vs 140 as standard. i wouldn't say its far off a mapped 140 in terms of overtaking grunt.

its ruddy big. certainly feels bigger than the 4.5 thank god for parking sensors is all i can say.
visibility is good, driving position is spot on, and everything in the cabin feels easy to reach and at hand.

only negative is that its taking a bit of time to switch from mk4.5 to mk5 a lot of the switches are a different layout, would have been nice if they could have kept things like the steering wheel switches in the same positions etc. muscle memory is a pita at times wink

got a nice little road trip tomorrow pitlochry to London so will be another 1000 miles of mainly motorway munching tomorrow, certainly seems a very capable mile muncher but i'll report back after tomorrows excursion

Try yet again lol

Been in service since Friday currently on 2200 miles lol

Some more thoughts, it's bloody brilliant at munching miles, effortlessly went to London and back yesterday and certainly can't fault the car in anyway, standard halogen lights are really impressive fantastic throw off them and the auto high beam is spot on. Steering wheel has a great feel to it and despite having electric steering compared to the mechanical rack of the mk4 it's nicely weighted
