Newbie to the site thought I would share my toy with ye. A 95 lancer evo I picked up from a friend who owned it for a good few years and finally gave in to my constant requests for him to part with it. It has had a few decent upgrades over the years including cusco coilovers (surprisingly comfortable) j performance four branch and turbo elbow, hks mushroom kit (not a fan of these but their is no space for anything else) hks ssqv and silent power exhaust . Has some naff 90s sat nav head unit and boost gauge and typical era correct speaker on the parcel shelf are other than that a spotless original interior . I have original wheels for it but have a severe disliking toward white wheels on anything other than a white car

I'm hoping to pick up a spare spoiler less boot lid to have the option to change. The original head gasket has given way due to corrosion as a result of being in storage for almost five years and obviously poor quality coolant. Removed the head and the exhaust valves are pitted so ordered a set of super tech valves and 3mm lash adjusters. Also ordered a full engine gasket kit to replace anything needed. Hopefully be sorted over the Christmas break.

Lovely, keep us up to date OP. Find cars like this very interesting. The ones that started the ball rolling but seem to be relatively forgotten about.
Considering their was only 5000 3s produced I dread to think how many are actually left so I bought this to keep myself entertained as I'm stuck in a caddy van all day on break downs on fork trucks and the family wagon is an is220 d although a great reliable car they hardly put a smileys your face

Very nice and a good buy. You don't see many 1, 2, 3's for sale or on the road these days.
Thanks apart from the head issue which is to be expected on a car of its age it's in top condition I bought it for half what it's worth here

So as it sits it's in retirement for the winter to get this head gasket issue resolved

Head is off and looks to be very clean for its age on signs of wear on bearings or cylinder walls.left 200ml of petrol in each cylinder overnight and all four had equal amounts the morning after so I'm happy enough with the bottom end zero crank end float too

Head gasket is well and truly shot.

Few bits steam cleaned then painted. Head is goin for machining and valves and stem seals rocker cover is away for blasting and to be painted wrinkle black. Turbo will be reconditioned before goin back on also

Put a cometic gasket. Best is a 1.6 mm on a 3 for more boost. They raised the compression on the 3.

I had an evo1,went a bit mad on it !! All forged up,big turbo'd. had it for 10 years. Great car.

Its still about im sure.

Cometic is the plan I picked up a full blue print engine gasket set just for various smaller gaskets. 3mm lifters ordered also. What turbo were you running

Plans are to get it back together. I have a full set of metal gaskets for it. The head should be ready any day now. 3mm lash adjusters on the way. Few cosmetic bits and a turbo rebuild. I'm trying to get an even balance of originality with a few tasteful mods. A good reliable turn key weekend toy before I start going for more power. Hoping to pick up an evo 7 intercooler for it as they are taller and thicker but fit with minor cutting. Also want to fit a later plastic case ecu to allow some open source mapping

So finally got the head back with a new set of exhaust valves and I good clean up. Quick coat of paint and bolted the inlet manifold on and torqued it down with new bolts still waiting for some 3mm lifter and put the cams back in small bit of progress. Also my spark plug cover and rocker cover washers finally came from japan land here a few pics. Also stuck a set of ap six pots and new steering arms on the mates subaru pics to follow
