VW MK6 Golf Gti: Edition 35!

Pre car history:
Started with a corsa b, absolutely rubbish car but a first car none the less, moved on to a mk4 astra 1.8 fastest car in history at 18 years old!
Various e36,e46 and one e90 followed this, then a e39 528i (wonderful barge!), then a mk4 golf gti AUM engine, whilst not a BAM engine, got it remapped by Revo and a decat and panel filter fitted, what a car, absolutely crazy! They get a bad wrap on most forums (this one included) but as a sub 1K fun car, but they're seriously underrated IMO.
Anyway onto the ED35, picked it up in January, wonderful Car, everything me and the misus needed in a car; fast,practical good looks, relatively newish.
When we picked it up it had a fresh 12 months mot and a service and front brake pads done.
Had a few torque converter automatics but fell in love with the dsg instantly, a conforming auto in everyday traffic, which can turn into a absolute beast in sport with paddles!
Only mods are; GFB diverter valve (known weakspot on most vag cars)
Milltek non resonated catback exhaust (excellent sound)
Soundaktor removed.
Took it round some local b roads with a friend with a corsa e and it was excellent fun, I genuinely believe I've found the perfect car, not too much horsepower that will loose your license when pressing on (235PS) and excellent handling (XDS diff ) whilst remaining totally practical.

Thanks, had I not needed practicality I would've opted for a lotus elite or similar (maybe) with rural dorset on our doorstep a b road blaster it has to be, the ed35 does it pretty damn well.MrBarry123 said:
No negative comments from me, these are cool cars, and interesting given VW decided to fit the older EA113 block to them instead of the EA888.
I was surprised by this initially, I didn't know before purchasing the car it was EA113 and assumed it was a EA888 as research suggested all mk6 gti's are.The confusion came when I realised I had a cambelt and the EA888 is chain, very lost for a while
Still, a EA113 belt engine with a factory KO4, couldn't of gone better to be honest

Thanks, yeah they were a optional extra on the ed35 when new, I would prefer 18's to be honest, but I'm happy with the 19's I must confesss I don't like the upgraded wheels and much prefer the standard 35 (18's?). The exhaust looks like it's hanging a bit too low in the pics and doesn't sit flush with the bumper .... that would send my OCD into overdrive
I spent days messing with the exhaust after fitting, and have just left it where it is, could be the angle of the picture but it's squared up top to bottom and side to side, but does poke out a touch from the rear bumper.
Never bothered me, the poking out!

Which model M3? My closest claim to a M3 is a E46 325i, which was nice, nothing special. I prefer the MK6 to a MK7 too! I just sold my M3 (doing a house up) so running about for the time being in my old Astra. Hopefully early in the new year I should be able to buy something nice again and these VW GTI's and 'R' models keep catching my attention. I honestly think I prefer the look of the Mk6 over the Mk7. Your example would be the perfect spec for me if I can find one come the time. Being a manual guy all my life I think it's time to try one of these new "autos", there seems a lot of love about for these DSG's.

The DSG is wonderful, I've had many manuals and considered myself a manual guy, I've also had a couple of torque converter auto's too, the DSG is amazing, sport mode is pop and bangs with rev match on downshift, manual mode does what it says on the tin.. Feeling lazy and just need a car to drive? Standard auto available in D mode.
Superb auto box, providing it serviced to schedule!

Yeah, weird thing about the seats, if I give them a good clean they sort of seem black, I've been told by a few people that it's a coating that I need to wash off with a tiny bit of dish soap and warm water, other say they've worn badly or are a different set, not too sure will give them a good wash when I have 5 minutes, other cars I look at on ebay have similar fades so I'm not sure if it's bad materials or they wear bad, or they're different seats Jonny_gti said:

I quite like the look of the 19 inch Glendale, don't see many with them. Almost pushed the button on an ed35 when my last Supercharged R32 got written off but decided I would miss the traction and noise so got another. Enjoy, looks great. Bet it handles well with the diff.
Thanks! They've grown on me, I wasn't too sure when I first picked it up about the wheels, now I'm certain on them the milltek brings out the sound of the tsi massively, but ofcourse almost nothing could beat the sound of a supercharged R32!Handles excellent (IMO)

Excellent Car though, fast V8 RWD mayhem!
I would still try DSG as some still don't like it, and you do have to adjust your driving style slightly to suit, but it's a wonderful gearbox

I am thinking of a Stage 1 Revo remap, but covering the basics before any power increase, both front tyres are on 4mm so going to get a fresh set on the back and swap the backs to the front, then upgrade brake discs with new pads.And then maybe a stage 1 map.

I'm only 24 but insurance nearly 1.5K on a E90 m3 or 1.2K on E92 or E90 335i, the ED35 is around £500 with the missus as a named driver.My mate has recently bought a Mk7 Golf 'R' with DSG and he has come from several STI Impreza's and a couple of Focus St's, all manual and he says he's loving the DSG. Never had a M Car so maybe I wouldn't miss it, still 3L twin turbo I'm sure could always do with a LSD!

I had my Mk6 Golf R APR'd. Had the necessary fuel pump upgrade, and VWR air intake, and found a mixture of Scorpion cat-back and APR downpipes second hand on Gumtree/eBay. Cost all in was about 2k. Gave it 371bhp at SurreyRR, and did 0-60 in 3.9 and 0-100 in 9.2s!
Also not sure if I would want 370BHP on a FWD car, seems you turned your car into quite a beast!

I read the PH fleet article the same day I looked at it as I was googling edition 35 like mad! The only thing they moaned about at PH towers was the MPG, who buys a hot hatch and then complains about MPG? Interesting it has a belt rather than a chain - what's the interval for the belt change on these then? Seems some serious BHP is just a map away........

The internet suggests massive difference on belt interval, so I asked the local VW dealer and they said 5 years or 70K so it would've been due this October, but for piece of mind (I've had a cambelt snap before ) I got it done March this year, so next change will be 100K or in 5 years time, I have a van as a daily so 5 years will probably come first
Little update, oil and filter nearly due so carried out today and service interval reset.
Also discovered whilst under the car that front tyre was damaged so replaced both front tyres with Goodyear f1 Eagles.
Plus tracking while there.
Didn't intend to come out of the day £400, the joys of cars.
Gunna take it out for a spin later after letting off some fireworks
