Just placed the order today. Saw the 1st pictures of it last year and was impressed but was less impressed when i saw the reviews. Had a short test drive today and loved it. Looks the business, sounds the business. The sort of city car that can be quiet and refined when you need it to be but you can have a bit of fun in as well.

It fits my commute of 5 miles city driving and 5 miles motorway perfectly and would be genuine fun on a twisty little road without risking my license.

Very impressed with the standard kit, DAB radio and heated seats.

I'm only just back in from ordering it but I've already got a text confirming that the finance (hire purchase before you ask) is sorted and a short personalised video thanking me for ordering the car.

I was told a wait time of 12-14 weeks, not sure how I'm meant to wait that long.

Spec: 999cc turbo 3 cylinder 5 door in Tornado red and the "Cruise and Park" pack added.

Very excited, this is the 1st brand new car I've ordered and look forward to sharing the journey to delivery as well as the journeys after delivery.

I've also been eagerly awaiting their arrival too!

Not managed to get down for a look/drive of one yet though, so can I ask; on it's lowest setting does the drivers seat sit nice and low? I'm hoping that it's similar to the way the old Lupo GTI used to swallow larger humans up front without putting most of their body on display in the window! laugh

I've been worried that even on the lowest setting you'll sit too high in the Up! GTI (as per most new cars) because I'm not a small bloke and I don't want to look like Donkey Kong shoehorn'd into a comically small city car... something I never felt when I drove a Lupo GTi many, many years ago.
It's the same seat as the standard Up, so have a look at one of those. It's not sportscar low but it's fairly adjustable.

I'm 6ft and I didn't feel like Donkey Kong at any point.

When I got out, I was able to fit in the rear seat behind myself so 4 6fters would fit, albeit snugly.

Could I ask how much the up costs monthlies and deposit ? And did you get any discount (understand if you don’t want to share )
I'll not go into specifics but the PCP was the same as the finance calculation on the VW website if you want to look there.

Wasn't able to get a discount with the number of orders in already.

Genuine question (based on a family member's comments) - are Seat & Skoda doing an equivalent, and how much cheaper are they?
The Seat Mii and Skoda Citygo are based on the same platform but there’s been no hot version announced for them.

Have you got a confirmed build week yet OP?
No. Was talking to dealer today who didn't go into specifics but confirmed that demand was way higher than supply.

I got my order number, so I can track it. Currently at Stage 2 of 7:

Your order is with the factory and is currently being scheduled for production.

Nice little review from Henry Catchpole here
Cheers, looks good. It’s funny seeing all the “proper petrolhead” journalists reviewing a city car!

I have a poverty spec VW Up as a hire car this week. I assume it is the most basic version, as it has front electric windows + wheels with plastic trims and a Bluetooth radio and that is it!

Boot: Tiny
Seats: A little funny as they do not feel like they support you. However, I can confirm that after 250 miles in them today, they are fine. No aches or pains.
Bluetooth: excellent.
It is nice to drive and chuckable.

It is a cracking little car, but I do prefer the Polo. Not sure of the cost difference and whether the extra cost of the polo is justified.
Cheers.
Cheers for the review, I don’t often have a lot in the boot so it should be OK. Rear seats fold flat if I do need to carry stuff.

I do most of my day to day driving in town so the small (outside) size was a big plus for me, the salesman was saying that the new Polo was the size of a mk4 Golf!

Latest Up!date (sorry), I had a check on the VW Live Chat and was given an "unconfirmed build week of week 34, this is the week commencing the 20th August."

So talk amongst yourselves here for the next wee while...

Sorry to hear that Andrew, hopefully they're just giving you a worst case scenario.

I just went to check on the live chat but apparently it's busy. rolleyes

I've got into the habit of checking every other Tuesday and there was no change the last time I checked.

I'll be on to them again this Tuesday, hoping some of the cancellations will bump me up the queue.

The lease company we use has removed it from availability, reading this with the timescales of getting one I can see why.

Perhaps with a few company's doing this the op will get his sooner.

Just checked there, mine's gone backwards to 3rd September as well. frown

Slightly irritated would be an understatement.

Yeah that's not good.

You could forgive this on something like a 911 GT3 or something but I'm considering other options.

Could this be the 1st Readers Car thread to not involve a car?

Will do.

Fairly confident that "You told me 12-14 weeks when I ordered" will get my deposit back.

The problem is, there's nothing new that I'd rather have.

I'll probably end up sticking it out, my current car's doing the job OK.

Western Edinburgh’s Facebook page has a 3dr in silver for immediate delivery.
Cheers but I want a 5 door and I live nowhere near Edinburgh. And I'm not on Facebook.

I'll have a check soon but I'll hopefully be getting my confirmed build date in the next week or so.

Josh: Thank you for your patience. It appears that your build week has been temporarily removed. This may be that the factory is looking to apply a different build week to the vehicle. In this case, I would recommend contacting your selling Volkswagen Retailer and they will be able to look into your order in more detail for you and see why the build week has been removed. I apologise for the inconvenience.

Went in to a Dealer to look at an UP! GTI and the conversation with the salesman went like this.

Im interested in an Up Gti? you wont get one its 52 weeks lead time.

Have you got one here? yes its in the car park round the back help yourself.

Anyway it was locked so didn't even bother going and asking for the keys. Went straight to the Fiat garage down the road and bought an Abarth 595 Turismo.
I’d be interested to see a thread on the Abarth, they look great but I need the 5 doors.

It’s becoming clear that VW have built a great car and then made a mess of handling the demand for it. I’m going to chase again for a build date.

I was told by my dealer that the build week was confirmed as 24th of September but I became sceptical of that when the app or website didn't confirm it. Live chat told me that the build week was still unconfirmed.

Just had an email today saying that the status has changed. I logged onto the app and it's saying that the build week is confirmed as 5/11/2018.

More tea anyone?
