Alfa Romeo 4C Spider
Discussion
300 miles and enjoying every single yard in it so far. The experience is hard to explain but pure and raw are probably the best two for words for now.
Lucky with the weather so far as I haven’t actually driven it in with the roof on!
Bias as I may be, in pretty sure it’s one of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen let alone driven and judging by the reaction when I’m out and about I think the feeling is mutual.
Here is Roary (as named by my 7 year old son) with the Giulia Speciale.

Love that 4C. One to keep for the long term.
I'd take to to boys up in Royston (Alfa Workshop) for their chassis tweaks (geo & modified rear wishbones). Makes a huge improvement apparently.
There was certainly an issue on coupe models however the spider especially on the 17” and 18” wheel combo feels pretty well grounded to me. Sure, it tracks the cambers a bit on our st roads but crucially instils confidence when pushing on. I don’t have to, but if I did then yes I think you could. The main issue would be general visibility and being seen in the rain I think. You are soooo low that even coming up alongside a Ford Focus feels like an SUV.
That aside it’s no different than driving the original Mini which is the closest car I can think of in terms of its feel when driving sedately. Odd comparison I know....

I get the negative reviews regards the tramlining and twitchy setup. However, for me this is a throwback car. A car from yesteryear that happens to have a modern twist.
The steering wheel is awful, the stereo is laughable especially as mine is still running in demo mode. fkING DEMO MODE in 2018! On tip of that everything you put in the ‘boot’ melts not matter what it is. However................
There is something magical, amazing, compelling about the 4C that some reviewers have missed. There is an air of everything I grew up fancinated about cars about it. The looks, the noise (ensure you spec the race exhaust) and the connection between man and machine. My phones are locked away, the only focus is the drive. And for that reason it is staggering.

Glad you're enjoying it! Ive had a coupe for about 14mths now and I'm using it as an every day car, it truely is an experience every time you take it out and the bad points haven't outdone the good even after 16k miles.
I bought mine as an antidote to a supercar I'm 'not allowed' to put any miles on and for that its brilliant 95% the same experience but it'll do 40+ mpg so it's practically guilt free!
I hope you use it as often as possible and right now a spider sounds like perfection!
The mpg is just hilarious isn’t it? Especially given the speed and Mordor- style noises of spitting exhaust, turbo whooshes and gear change kicks.I bought mine as an antidote to a supercar I'm 'not allowed' to put any miles on and for that its brilliant 95% the same experience but it'll do 40+ mpg so it's practically guilt free!

Had a passenger in a bmw M4 film the spider coming out of Redditch yesterday for a couple of miles which is a credit to the 4C only went out for some milk.....
So 600 miles in and still getting around 38mpg which included a spirited run to the Sunday service at JCB last Sunday.
I’ve made one addition to ‘Roary’ and that’s a pair of OEM carbon fibre wing mirrors which really match the carbon windscreen on the spider.
Still enjoying it and planning to squeeze some good drives in whilst the weather holds

A long overdue update......
The car is still driving really well and seems to be loosening up nicely. As before every journey is a epic venture into the wilds with the noise, drive and looks still working like day one.
I popped by Caffeine and Machine yesterday near Stratford Upon Avon, a petrol heads dream part setup by Top Gear USA and Fifth Gear presenter Tom Ford.
He was actually there yesterday so had a good chat. Later in the evening on his Twitter feed these photos appeared. Hadn’t planned it and hadn’t even seen a Porsche in the car park when I rolled up!
Italy v Germany

Really is a lovely car, the mpg it can achieve is pretty astonashing too given the performance/exoticness - guess its similar with elises though really so to be expected!
I know its not what the cars about, but what’s the sound system like? I love cars and the noises they make but good music on a drive for me is equally as important so a decent system is a must.
The sound system? Dreadful, I mean really garbage. Mine is still in demo mode. Demo Mode in 2018!!!!! There can’t be another car on the market that has an Alpine stereo that has a demo mode I know its not what the cars about, but what’s the sound system like? I love cars and the noises they make but good music on a drive for me is equally as important so a decent system is a must.
The plate is awful isn’t it. It’s a comedy car in many ways I’ve found what with the stereo lifted straight from a MG metro and the control buttons from an old Ford escort.
That said. The noise, the acceleration and the public response is worth it all.
Gotta go - the suns just come out and therefore it’s a roof off time!

Well, she’s mainly packed away for the winter however I decided to give it blast yesterday - roof off freezing........
Have to laugh at the batst crazy tyres temps below around 10 degrees. No specific information from the car just a simple ‘No’
Over 2,000 miles in now and still getting a steady 40mpg which given the performance and experience of driving it really does deserve a mention.

Up to 3,700 perms-grin miles now. Loving it still.
Some of the lucky ones who hired these from Leasys are now seeing their deals come to an end and perhaps unsurprisingly the offers on the table are eye watering to extend the deal or indeed buy the car. I’ve been busy with some man maths and wife befriending and reckon by the time Roary goes back (July 2020) I’ll be in a position to go and find one for keeps.
A selection of shots below from the past few months. My favourite is the overhead shot of the 4C following a recent trip to Caffeine and Machine with a fellow Spider owner. It looks so so gorgeous in that shot. Stunning.
And the final shot? Well, I said I was trying to get on the best side of the wife to buy one of these so Roary had to help out carrying some bark for the garden!!!
