Afternoon all, just to introduce my new car, a £500 2007 Focus 1.8TDCi Zetec Estate. I saw it advertised on Autotrader last Thursday and bought it that night. I'm on my way home from picking it up at the moment. There's a few jobs need doing but for the price and age of the car it seems ok. Will post pictures later when I get in.

It needs a good valet, there's a few marks on the body which is to be expected given the age, I'm going to get the oil and filter changed, also the engine management light is on which will need investigating. It drives well so I'm guessing the EML will probably be a sensor of some description. It came with an MOT until late June next year, tyres are all ok. According to the service book the cambelt was changed in 2011 at 108000 miles, now showing just under 174000. I've done about 80 miles in it so far

Edit, forgot to mention there's only one key with it so will have to get a spare one. I'm happy with it so far.

Evening all, about 150 miles in and so far the Focus is going fine, next main jobs are to get it serviced and investigate the EML. I've just been outside changing a headlight bulb, what a breath of fresh air compared to the Fiesta, nowhere near as much of a pig of a job. Why do the manufacturers design so many cars where the front end has to be stripped down to change a headlight?

A week and about 250 miles in and so far the Focus is running fine. Does anyone know where I can get a parcel shelf from?

Thanks I wasn't going to go to a Ford dealer for one, only use them for parts if I have to.

Bloody hell, for £500 that's a tremendous bargain. Let's hope it doesn't throw any big bills in the near future.

In my experience of running higher-mileage diesels, they do seem to like oil and filter changes more regularly than the manufacturer recommends. On my 2007 320d it gets changed very 8/10k.

5w30 Mannol oil is so cheap anyway it's no great outlay.
Thanks I think it's a bargain too, I prefer it to my old Fiesta.

Thanks, it's been ok so far. It drives well so I'm guessing the EML is a sensor of some description , one of the fitters at work has said he'll plug his laptop in and see what fault code it comes up with.

Came out to the car this morning to find in the night someone had pinched a wiper blade off it. Why do people feel the need to do this?

1000 miles in and so far its fine. At some point it's been debadged which I'm not keen on, so ordered a new Focus badge which arrived yesterday so I'll be fitting it this week. I've also found out that the radio has Bluetooth on it, will have to have a play and see how to set it up.

Thanks, not that I have noticed. I'm really pleased with it. I've got a road trip to Shropshire planned in late April, if anyone sees us out and about feel free to say hello.

Thanks, it seems to be in pretty good condition considering its age and mileage. Next jobs are to get it serviced and get the front tyres changed before the bad weather sets in.
