Honda Accord 2.0 Executive
Discussion
I've been without a car since mid September after my E60 M5 engine failed. I won't bore you with the details but I am having to get a second hand rebuilt engine.
So without further adieu, here it is.
It a a 2003 2.0 I-VTEC Executive with just under 38k miles on the clock. It came into my father in law's work as a trade in and he jumped on it. I've paid towards it but he is paying most of the car and loaning it to me and then we will sell it when I get my M5 back.

Really really like these; possibly one of the best manual gearshifts ever. Nice colour, too!
Cheers. It does clean up well. Everything seems to work as well, apart from Cruise Control. It needs an ABS sensor but there seems to be two type and I aren't sure which to get. The gear change is nice, very positive.steve-5snwi said:
Thats a tidy Accord.

Looks fantastic. Always liked those wheels.
They do seem to suit it.Morry10 said:
Great cars, ran a 2.4 exec tourer for the last 3 1/2 yrs - it has been excellent.
Liking the exterior/interior colour combo
I think I would have preferred black, but I am boring like that tbh. Just feels a little "old man" to me. The 2.0 will be fine for me for what I want. The 2.4 would have been nice but higher tax and fuel consumption.Liking the exterior/interior colour combo

Good choice.
The opposite of the M5 in many ways.
It works. Can't get much more opposite than that I've always liked the Accord to tbh, quite fancied a Type R at one point. The opposite of the M5 in many ways.

Can't believe the mileage is so low on that! If you were keeping it, it should run forever - My 2.4 Type-S is currently nudging 270,000 miles!
Might be worth having a quick look at the rear calipers, they can be a bit sticky - Probably even more-so if it hasn't been driven much.
Mine also had an appetite for ABS sensors, and even though they were replace you might still get the VSA light + /!\ staying on if you don't have a proper Honda HDS system to reset - You can clear by jumping a few pins on the OBD port (Google VSA neutral position memorization procedure)
Yeah I was surprised as well. Previous MOT's seem to back it up as well.Might be worth having a quick look at the rear calipers, they can be a bit sticky - Probably even more-so if it hasn't been driven much.

Thanks for the heads up re the ABS, I'll look at that. Do you know which sensor I need? The stubby one or the long one?

Great Accord! I had the model prior to this and it was faultless... except for the rear brakes which someone has mentioned.
Cheers. I'll keep an eye on the brakes.mw88 said:

I'm not 100% sure, but think it may be the longer one for the 7th Gen - This may help http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/356-diy-abs-se...Thanks for the heads up re the ABS, I'll look at that. Do you know which sensor I need? The stubby one or the long one?
I do know they're a pain in the arse to remove though! Think the guys at the garage had to drill mine out.

I had one of these for 3 years / 50k, bought at 6 years old with 40k on the clock, nothing ever went wrong.
Still think they're a really handsome car, don't look like they were released 15+ years ago
It is definitely a good looking car for what it is. I really like it.Still think they're a really handsome car, don't look like they were released 15+ years ago

Looks great! We've had the estate version for dog/camping duties for for a good few years now and it's been faultless.
Ours is also the 2.0 exec but in maroon with cream leather and fake wood - OAP chic at it's finest.
The engine and gearbox are good - revs sweetly to 7k and actually pulls pretty well if you keep the revs up. Think ours does about 35 mpg but did once manage a true 45 mpg on a long gentle overnight run down from Scotland to Dover!
Ride and handling are surprisingly good - ours is on 16 inch wheels but the chassis is much more resolved than the 2014 e class I also drive.
Fake wood aplenty in this ha. I haven't revved it out tbh, It kind of feels against what the car is about lol. I think I have had it up to 6k. I haven't done too many miles in it, about 15 or so. Longer run out on Sunday. The gearbox is a nice thing though, very positive.Ours is also the 2.0 exec but in maroon with cream leather and fake wood - OAP chic at it's finest.

38k in 15 years?! What did they trade it in against?
I did know but I have forgotten. The garage who took it in were inundated with offers from other garages to buy it, but my FiL got there first.MX6 said:
A fine choice, good value now. I like the look, they've a crisp and clean shape.
Uncluttered is nice to have. It's pretty straightforward inside as well.carboy2017 said:
Great car, I own a 2004 reg one now at 120k
I also had the ABS sensor issue 2 times now summer of 2017 I got it changed in halfords for £184 and it failed in Sept this year so I checked from the Honda forum and they showed me a supplier who had the BAS sensor for £15 quid and garage charged £40 per hour to fit it!
Apparently they are known to do sensors. Hopefully get one and then hopefully it turns off the light (may need to tell the VSA it has a new sensor).I also had the ABS sensor issue 2 times now summer of 2017 I got it changed in halfords for £184 and it failed in Sept this year so I checked from the Honda forum and they showed me a supplier who had the BAS sensor for £15 quid and garage charged £40 per hour to fit it!
Need to do a service on it, so will be ordering oil etc, once I work out what it takes, as it didn't come with a manual!
Cheers guys, not bad for a bag of sand really.
I can report that it definitely does not have vsa, having lit up the front tyres (in the wet) pulling into a roundabout yesterday (range rover driver did a full run around a roundabout without indicating, bd).
So I just need to get the sensor. Ill get one ordered on Monday (make sure I get the right one) and see if I can get it fitted. Looking at it, it runs a fair distance into the engine bay. Why did Honda do that?

Serviced the car today. Still hasn't hit 40k miles yet.
Plugs, oil, oil filter, air filter and pollen filter.
Also replaced the abs sensor. What a bd that was. Took us over 2 hours of digging the snapped part out.
At least it is now down and I no longer have an abs light on.
Next is get it booked in for an MOT and then get the car advertised for sale as I am expecting to have my M5 and its rebuilt engine back mid next month.

I would keep it on standby until the M5 is bedded back in and you are confident in it.

That's scrubbed up very nicely, it's a great shade of blue
Cheers, it isn't a bad colour at all. Looks like I may need to keep this a little longer. My M5 block isnt back from the machine shop yet as as 2 cylinders need a slight over bore and the rest need honing it is not looking promising for me picking up the car on the 13 of April.

That looks such a comfortable set-up with the leather. I've thought about sourcing a black set for my Accord but lower spec ones like mine lack the wiring looms in the floor for the electric controls so the best I can get is the part leather from a sport or type-S
Good luck with the sale, I don't reckon you'll have any problems moving her on.
It is quite good on a run. Not built for throwing it around mind. Good luck with the sale, I don't reckon you'll have any problems moving her on.
That's a shame about the looms.
Cheers, I hope not. One of my neighbours seems to be interested in it.

Why sell it keep it running and enjoy it - or don’t you really like it..hence wanting to move it on so relatively soon after buying?
The car is a stop gap until my M5 comes back, so it is pointless me keeping it once it returns. cerb4.5lee said:
I drove one of these years ago and I recall thinking how lovely the gearbox was to use and how nice it drove. Yours looks a fantastic example, glwts.
The gearbox seems so direct and precise. It's a shame that all gearboxes are not this nice to use. Cheers, I am hoping it sells soon.

Gave the interior a clean today. Used Autoglym leather cleaner and Autoglym leather care balm. I think that it has come up quite well.
I'll be putting this up for sale once it has been MOT'd. Probably going up for £1950 ono.
Get some LTT Deep Clean and it will come up even better. The best leather cleaner bar none. I'll be putting this up for sale once it has been MOT'd. Probably going up for £1950 ono.
