Hi. Found this motor about three months ago in a shed. I brought a vw engine from a chap who has a small collection of cars and got talking to him, as you do. He said they are all for sale..... 😁 👍

It's crazy, I had no intention of buying any sort retro/classic car tbh. But this truly was a gem of a find. I've always liked hot hatches tho. It's no 181 and has covered just over 9000 mls. Still on original tyres with factory air. No one has ever sat in the back and the boot has never been used. I'll put up more pics for you all if you would like to see them. Hopefully someone could give me some pointers on moving forward with the car.

I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but 'factory air' in the tyres is an interesting idea... How would one even begin to confirm that was the case? I believe tyres/wheels naturally leak air over time as the rubber isn't 100% air tight?

Yeah good point about the air thing. Nice idea though. Do these cars come up on PH often?

These really are lovely bits of kit had a William's 2 in the early 2000s the handling was spot on enough poke to be fun I had a scorpion exhaust and a piper cross filter.Only thing in my case to watch is the rear arches mine blistered and had section cut out with new them sprayed again plus the decals were hard to get back then. The prices on these have gone a bit bonkers like a lot of stuff of late saw one with a lot more mileage than yours up for 29k.Was you in the right place at the right time and grab a steal on it ?.
I bet it sounded nice with that pipe on it! This car seriously is 100% rust free. Yes right place right time. The guy I brought it from brought it new. It still smells brand new inside!

That's the money shot right there. Looks like it's never seen a wet uk road.
FTFY cool

Fantastic find OP, probably the only things to care for are rubber seal. Engine wise, probably coolant and oil flush will be more than adequate to put it back into pristine conditions.

Just one note, but any specialist will be aware of this: Renault of that era needed a specific coolant, use of non recommended one led to oxidation and leaks from the radiators. Can't say for sure this specific model was also affected, but I'd say so. Better to double-check.
Thanks, good advice. It's just a cool motor. The grey paint on top of the engine is a bit peeled but nothing that can't be done. The paper work for this williams is all there
Including the original sale receipts, plus some williams goodies given with the car like hats jackets and a watch!

That’s bloody lovely; these are seriously cool.

What are your plans for it OP? Will it actually see much if any use?
Thanks. Not really sure to be honest at this point in time. What would you do? I'd be worried to take it out on our roads these days. I've got access to a runway for blast if I do decide to get it going.

Good pointers folks. Definitely food for thought. I'd be nervous to drive it as know how many mental people are out there, like grannies in Honda Jazz's.! I'll get some more pictures soon.

Great find, looks great.

I owned my Williams 1 from 1999-2002 and loved it, to this day the longest I’ve kept any car. Great fun to drive, amazing on the B roads and better than my 205 1.9 GTi I owned prior.
Pugs were great cars and still are. I remember my dad coming home with a black 1.9 gti. G65 LCW. It was a pretty much new car at 5000 mls. Dad worked really hard as a lorry mechanic and he deserved it as we lived on the breadline and under in those days.
