Carbon '72 Mini C20XE Including Build Details
Discussion
Hi Guys during our 2 year build we havent really had time to post up. Skunkworkz, Chris, myself and a load of other mates have been hard at it as you will appreciate below. Instead we've gathered a load of Photos and info through-out the build and have now loaded on page 11 of this thread.
This build has been kept under wraps since we started and this is the first time these pictures have been released.
Breif history is it was my Grandfathers car from new in 1972, it stayed in the family until 1991 when I sold it. Then in 2008 I found it again with only 120miles extra on the clock since I sold it, but in a sorry state, I then bought it back, which is where the fun began.
Enjoy......

Nice car!
Have a good run if I don't see you!
Excellent yep post them up as you can imagine it was manic yesterday I didnt even get a chance to take any photos and didnt really see much of the show.
But the result was Awesome we really were not expecting the Trophies and to be honest only done the Show N Shine to get a decent parking spot to show the car ( and to get out of CP early )
Most of the time was spent chatting and cleaning hahaaaa
Yep you should have came and said hello will be loads of other chances anyway going forward now were on the road.

Immense car, very well done to you. Sorry i haven't read all the replies but i have to ask how does it handle the power?
To be Honest we are still running it in, the London to Brighton run ended with 320 miles on the clock. The guys at Track N Road have mapped it only to 4500rpm until we have it run in then we will get it back to them for full power and the Figures.
We are looking at between 210 - 220BHP on a car that weighs around 700Kg hahahhaaaa
It drives nice at the moment really usable but you can feel the arms are going to be ripped off you with torque steer when finally at full power.
But thats where the fun lies.
The wide track does mean it doesnt like white lines etc but we were willing to give that one up purely for the look and the stance.
A Proper little go Kart is what it feels like

Popped down to Madera drive after work on Sunday and saw this car, workmanship is flawless, well deserved win.
I was wondering though, do you Type R/Mini boys have many problems with cooling? The radiator is a hell of a lot smaller than in a Civic!
Beautiful car.
Thank youI was wondering though, do you Type R/Mini boys have many problems with cooling? The radiator is a hell of a lot smaller than in a Civic!
Beautiful car.
its a Vauxhall 2.0 Red Top so dont really know much about the Vtec ones
the rad and the exhaust manifold were the 2 big sticking points to make it fit into the standard length roundnose
most of the 16v Mini boys put a 90mm extended front end on (it makes it look like a limo at the front)
our main aim of the project was to make sure it fitted in the standard length after being told "It cant be done" challenge was set hahaha
anyway by going full custom on the rad made by the lads at Pro Alloy this was done rather than trying to fit a metro or Vauxhall rad into somewhere it didnt want to be
The result was the rad 45 deg over the transmission with custom ducts into the rad and out the back feeding out of the inner wing
so far working no probs even in the crazy Brighton traffic with the 2500 mini traffic jam lastweekend

Yeah there were a few minis around town!
Interesting stuff, the rad looks a lot thicker than standard I'm sure and it's good new you're not experiencing any problems. Must sound a bit fruity on those bodies too.
yep rad is about 80mm thick and done by ProAlloy so super efficient with 2 tiny high power pans on the rear sucking through and out the ductInteresting stuff, the rad looks a lot thicker than standard I'm sure and it's good new you're not experiencing any problems. Yep the Throttlebody noise i Awesome and very addictive

Stunning car, i cant stop looking at it ! Well done its amazing ive got a nice evo if you want to swap lol !!!!!
Haha Cheers but nopeI sold my 580BHP Porsche 996 Turbo X50 in November and this is the latest toy and I can confirm this is as much fun and probably draws more attention than the Pork did
(but the 996 will be replaced after a year of Mini fun but the Mini is for keeps)
Cheers for the comments guys
Problem with a Bump is that the bump would have gone onto the wing aswell as the bonnet then with a gap down it for the bonnet to open it looks very very strange.
Some have been done like this with a 90mm extended front( Looks like a Mini Limo) and we were not fans of that so hence why the challenge was set to get it into a Standard length round nose.

I plan to bring it to the Wilton House Supercar meet ( If Im allowed in )
Now its run in we are going for the full map on the 13th August
So Videos should follow after that
We have also subtley removed some extra breathers from the rockercover and the oil filler cap which some people wouldn't notice but the breather is also something that would come out straight through the middle of the bonnet.
Yep as mentioned above we are getting the final Map on the car on the friday then will be at Minis In the Park on Sunday.
Not bad 5 trophies in 2 months
The will better not be another one hahahaaaaaa.

How much further forward is the Vauxhall lump compared to an A-series or K1100 headed A-series? Bet it will be ballistic in straightline - Mini's are about the bendy stuff too.
No criticism mind - the car and work are a credit to you...
....and respect to you for keep the standard bonnet - those other extended BOS just don't look right.
What would gramps have made of it now then eh?
The engine position is relatively the same as a A Series to the wheels but its the sheer size that is the problem and with the square rocker cover etc thats the prob especially as it protrudes to the wing aswell. No criticism mind - the car and work are a credit to you...

16v a series max out at around 160bhp n/a I believe
This will probably be around 220bhp but with a lot more torque
They is a turbo'd 16v a series with 260bhp dont think it is road legal however
Stunning Car by the way makes my mini look like a piece of st and has made the allure of a bigger engine far more appealing :/
We originally were going A Series Turbo but then as you say 150BHP is on a Very Stressed unreliable engine and working for Vauxhall we thought why not go this way hence starting with a standard 150BHP bullet proof engine then taking it to a very comfortable 220BHPThis will probably be around 220bhp but with a lot more torque

Just amazing, congrats on the awards guys. This car is kind of how I would've liked my Mini to turn out if I'd had the time and money! Can I ask, what colour is that?
Cheers its Escort Cosworth Imperial Blue ( Doesnt go with the Vauxhall Theme I know ) ( And dont tell my boss as I work for Vauxhall )
