NEW 981 BOXSTER OWNERS - PROSPECTIVE PURCHASERS FORUM

AGATE GREY - I WAS HUMMING AND ARRING on this colour as my choice but just been down to Sign off my spec and saw the colour against GT Silver and Standard Siver etc - It will look awesome - with Silver and black you tend to lose the line details - I was tending to lean towards the silver as it is shown a lot in literature videos etc but definitely opted now for Agate grey. It is a warm looking Grey but definetely does not look brown in natural light as the cars were all outside ready to go to customers.

Tried to live without BOSE but the Porsche Sound System I tried in a couple of 991's was really disappointing so after back to back testing I decided BOSE was required to get decent speakers.
I found the colour the hardest thing to choose, especially as you can't yet see the cars in the flesh. Looking at a 991 helps a bit, but they are different cars and what looks good on one may not suit the other. I would have liked a gun-metal grey like many Aston Martin's and Audi's.
In reality, almost all the colours look nice when clean and polished, especially in the showroom, and you spend most of your time looking at the interior.
Cheers,
Geoff

I have to agree with Geoff as he commented on another post.
Tried the sound systems out today and the Bose sounds much crisper in all different wind environments from low speed to full on throttle - Thats why I just added it to my spec today.
Please see below comments from another post which I put on earlier regarding colour and PSE
I went and drove the 911S with sports exhaust today and you can definitely say it sounds like a real race car with it - That doesnt mean to say it is does not sound good without cos it does but if you want the boxster to sound like a race car it is definetely for you. I would not get this just so other people will know your in the vicinity however once I wound down the windows and heard all the revs being dumped through the exhaust on the down shift it is like listening to an orchestra. This is simply a big part of the pleasure driving the boxster for me anyway (And you can turn it off on your late night returns home so not to wake the kids when you pull up on the drive)
As for the brown hues in the Agate grey paint work - I have a grey Audi Q7 of which i love the colour however parked at the side of the Agate grey it kind of pails into insignificance as the Porsche colour is just a much livelier shade of grey - It really brings the car to life even as it was hissing it down today all the reflections and colours shine off the paintwork.
I was of the same opinion as Geoff and was going to play safe with the silver as it was illustrated in all of the literature however once I seen the Agate grey colour again and imagined it on the 981 boxster I can certainly say it will pick up all of the beautiful lines of the car magnificently possibly better than the silver as we parked it next to the other 2 silver coloured cars on the lot. (Photos seem to pick the brown hues up of the Agate grey much more than in real life) My opinion anyway - thats why I have certainly put my reservations straight to one side and finally specced up the Agate grey..........

Geoff you have enlightened me on a number of issues - Thank you for your comments as the people who read them will get a complete unbiased opinion on choices for their spec.
PS Silver does still look awesome

Frankly a button which, when pushed, causes the car to make a bit more noise is about as useful as a piece of cardboard in your kid's bicycle spokes.
Sign of the times I suppose...

I personally think the car looks good on 20s and hardly chavvy ! I think some of the smaller options look underwheeled. I have 20s (factory upgrade) on my X5 and I think they look small!
I agree it probably does loose a little bit of dynamics in both ride and handling but not by a massive margin I'm sure, otherwise Porsche wouldn't take the risk in offering them if it was going to ruin the car.
The BMW M3s always rode and handled better with the 18s but the majority of the customers went for the 19 upgrade presumably just for the look
Yes the marketing men win !
Totally agree - If you wanted a faster better handling car then I am sure you could find something out there but would it look as good - I don't think so - so a very minute compromise to appease the aesthetics aswell as the speed freak in you I think it is the best thing out there especially with the 20" rimsI agree it probably does loose a little bit of dynamics in both ride and handling but not by a massive margin I'm sure, otherwise Porsche wouldn't take the risk in offering them if it was going to ruin the car.

This is all turning a little sour regarding the form of the vehicle - the fashion as well as the technology has changed significantly over the last 10 or so years - Beauty is in the eye of the beholder or so it goes - so criticism is a very self subjective matter however as the post started to share info and thoughts regarding the choices available it wasnt really to diss the form rather than the functionality and engineering behind the car and to share our thoughts on the drive of each individual component as well as keeping all of us who have ordered a new one bloody sane in the long wait for it to turn up.
