996 tt vs. audi r8
Discussion
Well thanks everyone for their views, I didn't think it would prove to be such a popular post. Anyway, even whilst driving at "ahem" a rapid rate of knots, I was leaving a good distance between us, so I could tell you if it was V8/V10. However, the disappointment face from the R8 driver was when I had to pull on to a slip road to take my exit and he subsequently slowed to make eye contact.
Anyway, the point of my post is that I have only recently bought my 996 tt following an absense due like many, to having a young family. So the fact that the Mrs and the kids can all fit in (although not for the R8 sortie) means it is already fulfilling a whole bucket load of requirements for where I am in life right now.
In my opinion, the R8 is a astonishingly, ball achingly beautiful machine and it did sound effing awesome. And certainly when my kids are older and I don't need the rear seats, a 2 seater is on the wish list. But I can't help but think of my school boy days with Ferrari's and Lamborghinis and Porsches adorning my bedroom wall, that going Audi for 2 seater sports car is somehow settling for second best (in the used car sense because that is where my budget would most likely push me in the future)!
But until I am in the space for a 2 seater (at leastr 10 years away), I will continue to fall madly, deeply, and utterly in love with my 996 tt. For my budget and level of income, it does far more than I need of it performance wise, still looks modern, is distinctive enough to stand out from the crowd (I can be quite shallow!), and the family friendliness of it just completes the wish list.
