Topping up oil on a 996 TT

As the TT has no dipstick I would guess that I have to rely on the electronic readout......though I have heard that this is not very accurate.
Its telling me that the level is quite low so I am going to fill it up, so :

Q1) Which oil (mobil 1 motorsport?)
Q2) Any other way of getting an oil level reading other than the electronic readout ?

yeh I was going to mention this - can't get a reading when the car is cold - has to be warmed up or it won't give a reading....I wondered if I needed to adjust the OBC or something ?
