After driving a V6 Cayenne yesterday, I've now accepted that it's just too slow. So... I'm viewing a turbo tonight instead!

From talking to the seller, he's only had it 6 months and is selling for a house purchase. The previous owner had it for 10 years, but part of this time it was over in Cyprus so history is a bit patchy. Recently its had a new radiator and waterpump.

I'm going to trawl through the history to see whats what, but I do not believe there to be proof of the coolant pipes being changed. This is obviously something I want done, as if not it will be used to haggle. I'd read on rennlist that you can see them with a mirror between the inlet and the bulkhead, is this true?

Otherwise, I'm just after a list of things to check on the car and receipts to look for. Prop bearing, Airbags, battery etc.

He's said everything works inside, but will of course check for myself.

Do we think that it's worth an inspection on something like this?

Hi Adam,

This is 20 mins up the road from me, you are unfortunately 2.5 hours away! Up until yesterday we were also planning on going down the V6 route so Turbo viewing took a back seat.

Your car is also Silver which is something the wife isn't keen on too frown

Thanks for the tips though. I'm intending to go over the paperwork tonight and suss out quite how patchy the history is. The guy told me up front that it doesn't have all of the previous MOT certs as a start, but I'm not sure what else it's lacking yet.

Cheers.

Just got back from viewing it.

Loved the colour scheme of blue with two tone sand interior, also the level of kit on the turbo is leagues better than the v6. It actually felt a premium car.

Electrics seemed solid, everything worked. No faults showing and it seemed in good condition.

Air suspension went up and down repeatedly with no problems. Does it only work with the door shut though? Damper modes changed noticeably whilst driving too.

Box kicked down fine, no noises. No grumbling on overrun and no vibration from the floor. Engine pulled well and it's an odd sensation going so fast in something so big!

The down sides... Very little history indeed! It's had a water pump and radiator+hoses this year. Also a new battery. It had the air bags replaced a couple of years ago. But the main issue is no evidence of the coolant pipes being changed or the diff bearing.

I'm planning to find out the costs of these from Northway and use it as a haggling point. Any idea what those jobs would cost?

Very, very tempted. Would be the thirstiest car I've ever had. But our old 650i used to do 18mpg so I know what to expect.

I think he needs to move on the price a bit more due to the pipes issue. You've seen the ad so I'd like at least £500, pushing for even £1k off to cover the cost. Perhaps £500 off and I pay for an inspection that he then deducts the cost of if I buy it?

Tyres were all newish p-zeros. Are they the right type for the car?

Even with next to no history? He's had it up for a few weeks and it needs to go to help with a house purchase.

Didn't see one! I'm going to text him and ask to be sure.

Would porsche be able to look it up?

Odd, he did have a book after all. A few services at Porsche wilmslow and East London, then a couple of specialists. There a 2 year period with no info but it's had two services since that. It's been a case of one a year and every 20k for most of it's life though.

Changing pads and discs on these things, is it fairly straight forward? The rear discs have a bit of a lip so would need replacing in the next 10k or so.

Dave, it was the suspension bags. Not the safety ones!

Wise words people and appreciated. Going back to see it again tomorrow morning.

Well, test drive done. Wife saw it and liked it too. Tried the kick down test from 5th to 3rd and keeping my foot in, all ok. Tried giving it beans off a roundabout, all ok.

Should be collecting it in the week wink

Going to collect Friday pm or Saturday am!

Compared to the (low spec) V6 it's night and day difference. The V6 really is bordering dangerous in terms of how slow it was IMO. The turbo goes the other way and is far faster than it needs to be! Really, the V8 would have been perfect, but the engine issues were too much of a risk for me.
The interior was much more what you'd expect in this sort of car too. Heated front and rears, 4 zone climate, memory seats etc.

Just trying to work out the best iPhone/bluetooth solution for PCM2.1. It seems to be Dension or mObridge, but nothing much conclusive from what I can find on here or Rennlist. Dension is cheaper so thats leading at the moment!

Well, here we go!

Had my first issue already, the one thing I didn't check properly before buying was the shifting to low range, locking diffs etc. my mistake and I've learnt the hard way!

Messing around with the car on Friday and locked the diffs up as I was learning what did what. Tried to shift back to high range and it wouldn't, throwing a 4wd fault. Gutted!

Spent quite a while searching on Rennlist and Renntech and found it was likely to be the servo motor on the transfer case. Also saw mention of people taking it off, manually selecting high range and then fitting the motor back on. So, after a few attempts (and then eventually realising I needed it in neutral before it would switch!) I got the car back into high range and it's fine.

New motor to be purchased.

Otherwise it's great! Will give it a mention in the poverty pork thread too!

Yes, it's odd. The motor couldn't be more exposed either!

From what I've read, they did switch to a different design and supplier for the motor around 2005/6 so I want one of those as the replacement.

No more pictures yet, I spent most of the weekend under it rather than in it!

iPhone/Bluetooth wise, I've had 2 places refuse to quote on a Dension as they won't supply them. Then 1 quote of ~£950 for a mobridge install. If that's what it will cost then the Pioneer F60dab at £1250 fitted is quite likely.
