buying advice required!! BMW M4 vs 991 GTS
Discussion
Hi all
I've been weighing up for some time the relative merits of an M4 vs a Cayman GTS, but now I've looked at order lead times for the Cayman which are up to 9 months minimum, I have moved to the 991 911 GTS. It's a conserable step up in terms of cost, but a great car nonetheless. I'm trying to justify the £400 per moth price differential over the M4 ( yes, it's a typical spoilt brat problem to have!!). The chosen car would be my DD, although I don't do any more than 12000 a year.
Your views and sage advice welcome......

Drive them. In 2008 I test drove current model M3, RS4 and C63. None of them turned me on much. I drove the M3 three times desperately wanting to like it. Then I tried a two year old 997 C4S and knew I had to have it within 5 minutes.
Now I have a 997 GTS, which is the only time I've bought the same 'model' of anything twice in 30 years of driving.
Have fun making your mind up after trying each out. BTW I gather the Cayman GTS is an outstanding car. Is there no way you can buy one that's in a showroom somewhere?
LOL! I have driven them! I have driven the M4 3 times as well, and I was also desperate to love it. It's a very fast car, but for me ultimately not satisfying in the way that the Cayman GTS or 911 are, although I still have to try and justify it to myself! For those of you who have had both marques, what are running costs like as a comparison?
Hmmmm...
Lots of deliberating and not helped that I can secure a deal on a 911 GTS for April delivery!!.
GT3 for me is just a little too compromised. This car will be a DD after all! GTS has the nice blend of performance vs every day practicality IMHO.
What sort of mileage are you guys getting as an average out of your tyres, and what does a set cost ? I'm not tracking the car, but have a mixture of motorway and back roads to contend with ( slightly interesting in my M135 this morning in -6 deg C!!).

Well it's decided!
After some deliberation and making various Porsche dealers squeak, I'm calling one back tomorrow and placing a deposit on a 991 GTS.
Many thanks to everyone for all your advice and views. It really has helped to validate how I felt about each car. The 911 is more of a stretch, but will likely result in me keeping it for many years!!
Cheers!

Popping to the dealer tomorrow to confirm spec and colour, and take the opportunity of driving the GTS with a Porsche driving instructor. Looking forward to it....
Any views on colour choices? Wife likes metallic white, although I like the metallic black, I question whether it would look too much like a batmobile as the wheels are black too.....

How to piss on somebody's parade in one fell swoop! This sort of tuppence is one to keep to yourself when somebody's just ordered a £100k new car in that colour - my tuppence
LOL! Each to their own. I considered black and white (like the red however NOT the bright red and Carmine red is an additional £1801 which IMHO is too much for that colour). After seeing the demo (picture in the thread) I just fell in love with it.Looking forward to collection. Considering collecting it from the factory, but we'll see.
Cheers

Aah yes!
Lady was my wife. We went for a spin in the demo after we spoke and then finished up.
I used to ride a GS Adventure and did Europe a number of times
With the arrival of kids that stopped 2 years ago! Wife and I are planning on a similar tour in the GTS (kids with relatives!).
Perhaps we will bump into each other when we collect. I'll keep you posted!
