So driving around my old working/middle class neighbourhood and bumped into a friend who has bought a Pagani Huyara! Conversation went along the lines of nice to see you what are you doing around here? He pointed to his parents 3 bed semi and said thats where I live! Tickled me that his car is worth two to three times what their house is worth and gave him a fair bit of stick for it and also for living with his parents in his 30s.

Drove up the road a bit same thing. Lambo H Spyder parked outside another 3 bed semi. Further down the road another 3 bed semi with a 488 GTB and SQ7. WTF!

Made me chuckle that their cars are so important to them and there's me driving around in my old banger smile

Please don't hit me with the racist card as it's not meant in a derogatory fashion, but is this a cultural thing in the sense that it is an south Asian/Pakistani demographic that you saw this in?

No idea for sure as your post gives no indication of either area or backgrounds?

I know that staying at home with the family is fairly normal in this community as are flashy cars.
British Indian, British Sri Lankan and British Pakistani. Relatively wealthy so would not surprise me if cars not on tick. If you'd told me 30 years ago that we'd see cars like this in my old neighbourhood I'd have said you're barking.

I'm also a British Asian and lasted about 2 weeks at home after my 18th and moved out but maybe there's something to what you're saying - I still find it very strange as we've all been bought up here wink

Quite like how you refer to what looks to be a 911 Turbo as 'your old banger' in your OP. Also the house where that Lambo is parked looks very red brick and leafy. I suspect this area isn't working class at all and never has been. Looks like Hampstead/Highgate or one of the nicer stops along the central line to me.

The house with the Ferrari outside would be about 800K in Croydon these days, and I suspect you're in a nicer part within greater London, so that house would be worth a million plus.
Inspector Clueso you're slightly wide of the mark wink

Both houses are in a postcode nr to Wembley worth approx £400,000 give or take £50,000. A 2006 911 turbo is a banger compared to a Pagani, Fezza and Lambo in my book but glad you think it isn't. I love it to be fair.

I remember when living there hearing about a gang who tied you up in your own house, robbed, raped and murdered victims so having those cars in that sort of area definitely carries an element of risk too thinking about but it was the relative values which amused me. Just wouldn't have believed that Lambos, Paganis and Fezzes could all be see within a few hundred yards of each other in suburban NW London.

Croydon was a rough area from what I remember 20-30 yrs ago so amazing a 3 bed semi worth 800k - wonders of regeneration - happy days smile

Behave! 2006 , makes is a 997? Must be 45-50 grand if bought off a forecourt now? That cant be described as a 'banger' compared to anything else.
All relative I suppose but compared to a 488 (£275k) , H Spyder (£230k) and Pagani??? I'm not sure as I've never enquired but think the Pagani is over £1 million to buy new maybe even more used in these crazy times whistle

But you cannot fault the man's taste in cars and I have respect for his commitment to living his dream (if he can actually afford it)
He can afford it for sure and pls do not take my comments as negative. I love the fact that they're petrol heads living the dream. Its quite charming really and I'm a little jealous (in good way) wink

the best so far... laugh

I used to work two days in Aldgate East (London), and 2 days in Cambridge. In Aldgate, usually where loads of manufacturing family businesses around, you would see much more extreme scenes, where loads of old buildings/shops and etc, surrounded by Porks, Audis, mercs you name it..

In Cambridge, it's totally the opposite, mostly scientist, engineers or academics cycling around minding their own modest life but releasing their old-vintage mg's or spitfires in sunshine. It's nice to see super-diverse car-culture, imho in a relatively short zone.
IMHO - anyone can do whatever they want with their money as long as they earn it from honest means, pay their taxes and respect the people around them - only PH can have a thread like this - it’s bizarre - this type of thread combined with the Instagram “look at me generation”, where people with such low self esteem need constant gratification and re assurance from total strangers - is really sad; the worlds gone mad and I’m sick of it.......

getmecoat
I'm lost. Do you not find it a bit odd to see a £1m car parked outside a 3 bed semi? Or like the 488 and SQ7 £400k of cars outside a £400k house in the middle of a high street?! I certainly did and thought it would be of interest to share. Apologies for posting!

I think you may be out some way. (Unless you give a postcode) The ropier end of the market for 4 beds in that area are £500k+ semi-decent 4 beds with off street parking you're talking £800k+
I'm sorry I won't give postcode you'll just have to take my word for it. Some parts of Wembley also have £1m houses.

These are three bed semis changing hands for circa £400k-£450k. In the same area you can buy a detached 4-5 bed house for 600-£1m but you'd be nuts to in my book. Shytehole

Fair enough understand, I live down in W5 and 1 beds start at around £400-420k
1 beds in London very desirable for obvious reasons. I'd take the 3 bed semi in average suburban London area for the same money wink

A few years ago I found out people were paying £550,000 for 1 and 2 bed flats on my doorstep. Almost fell off my chair as seemed very poor value. Even more expensive now probably as 12 yrs or so on but housing mkt completely out of control in UK with dodgy overseas money buying up everything. I'd ban the feckers from buying in London then see what happens smile
