Porsche 997 .2 vs 991 depreciation
Discussion
Hi all,
New to the forum, from the UK.
Interested in buying a Porsche 911 and willing to spend up to £45K - pretty inexperienced with Porsches.
It will be mainly a weekend car and thinking of keeping it between 1 and 2 years. I will then sell and buy a family car, so interested in resale value.
What would be the best option to go for from a resale/depreciation point of view?
Thanks,
MrT

Hey Buggyjam,
Thanks a lot for the reply mate, very informative.
It's gonna be my first Porsche and to be fair don't know much about them. Keep crawling through the forum to find known issues or potential things to look out for.
I have read that the main differences are that the 991 is wider at the front and has an electro mechanical steering
I am also thinking about the warranty as well, but it always depends on what that covers. Really like to have peace of mind while owning a 911, and hopefully, I won't be in and out of garages.
I will be maintaining the car properly, as this will help keep the value as much as it can, and given it's gonna be a weekend car, I don't expect massive expenditure on that front.
Even though I like the 991 better (purely based on looks as I haven't test driven any yet), I have a feeling that a 997 gen2 will keep more of its value. Still split though...

Only if you'd be happy with big mileage, which will then kill the value further down the line...
Good spec, low mileage C2S are around £45-55k, more for a 4S or Targa. GTS are just bonkers around £70-85k
Yeap, pretty much what I have been seeing over the past few days.Good spec, low mileage C2S are around £45-55k, more for a 4S or Targa. GTS are just bonkers around £70-85k
I may need to stretch my budget close to £50K from what it seems...

Go to someone like RSJ in Slough, you can pick up a very tidy 997.2 that comes with a warranty and will be in good condition. If your only using it for sunny Sundays and keeping it for a couple of years its likely not to need anything more than a service. They will probably buy it back off you.
Try them and some of the other independents. The ones with good reputations have good reputations because they sell tidy cars.
Get a manual S 997.2 in a standard colour and its likely to drop very little over a year or two.
AinsleyB thanks for the comment... I really want a PDK even if it drops a bit more in value than the manual.Try them and some of the other independents. The ones with good reputations have good reputations because they sell tidy cars.

I am currently looking at independents and OPC, especially because of their warranty.
