Does it make much difference so long as they are above the minimum thickness, 26mm in the case of the 981.

I'm about to change my pads and the lowest point I can find on my front discs is 26.80mm, so just over half worn. The car goes on track/nurburgring occasionally, I don't mind replacing them but only if I'll notice an increased resistance to fade - normally it's the pad that does that.

Minimum thickness after machining is published as 26.6mm - Porsche therefore sanction use below your current measurement; the limit is there for a reason but even that will still retain a safety margin. No reason to replace this early.
Thanks Pope, not sure what you mean about 26.6mm after machining and therefore can be used below this?
