I’ve recently just ordered a Singer Porsche, most importantly a DLS, after seeing it at Goodwood (thanks Matt & Rob).
The first part of the order process, after paying that is, is to pick your special order vehicle number. As they’re only making 75 of these there’s not much choice. This got me to thinking, is the number choice that important and does it affect the resale cost (if I ever sold it). I didn’t really think it would be a big deal but it has turned into exactly that. I picked my number (70) and thought nothing of it, now I’m thinking maybe it is a big deal.
I obviously didn’t pick numbers 1,2,3, 69 or 75 as they’ve already gone. So I went for the last one closest to 75.
Anyone had to pick a number or name for their car, and if so, how did you come to your decision?
Cheers
Pete

Congratulations on choosing such an exciting car. I think we would all like to hear about your driving experiences when you eventually take delivery. I spent ages drooling over the DLS at Goodwood. Be nice to hear about your spec too when you decide.

Wrt choice of number I think 70 is the perfect choice actually - being Porsches 70th.

I kept my allocated number plate of 67 on my new GT3 as it was my birth year so yes it is important smile
Nice choice of car there buddy. Yeah it starts it’s build in July 2019 and should take approximately 2 & 1/2 years to make. So I’ll hopefully get it before 2022, then it’ll be my daily driver. Looking forward to it now so much that the wait is going to kill me.

Pick a number which is regarded as lucky for the Chinese. No 8 will be worth untold billions. No 4 or 44 will be as saleable as Boris' memoirs.
I thought of number 8 for that very same reason.

Did I remember correctly from your other thread that you would not order a Singer as it was your brothers favourite car? biggrin
You did remember correctly, however I never agreed not to buy the DLS haha. Nah he’s cool with it as he’s getting a Singer classic and an 812 SF anyway.

My choice would be 70 out of those still available. Nice alignment to Porsche’s 70th anniversary this year.

Great to see you back posting on the forum Pete, hope life is treating you well.
Yeah it’s good to be back. I’ve been busy with getting married, talking car of my family, and the charities. Now I’m going to enjoy myself and get purchasing some more cars.

They’ve found me a lovely California donor car.

Normal form on PH is to say "Worst ever, I've got too much money to spend thread ever".
However those that have read your other thread will know you're a thoroughly decent bloke who does amazing things with his cars (for charity) and that you've been through the mill somewhat on the health front (I say that in your typically understated manner).
I hope the Singer is everything you wish it will be, and you have years of enjoyment both behind the wheel and indulging those less fortunate. You sir are thoroughly decent human being, and I salute you smile

beer

P.S The number 70 will do just fine smile
That’s a lovely comment to read, gutted to have shut down the LFA thread (especially since I bought another one) but it started getting weird haha.
I’m launching something very soon that’ll showcase all my collection, should be bloody good considering I’ve added lots more to it since that original thread.
Thanks for making my day with that comment. You’re a good man.
Cheers
Pete

2022 is a long time to wait for a car.
I spotted the other thread disappeared but never looked at why.
It did go a bit random.
Yeah very random haha. I was gutted too as I’ve added another 10 or so cars to the collection since then and wanted to share the experience with everyone on there but I started getting crap like “don’t you think you’ve got enough” etc etc. I’d love to just start a 2manycars garage thread but it’ll only get moved to readers cars or somewhere obscure. I’m really just trying to get my cars noticed so I can build the charity on the back of that. I just feel like I can do more for charities than I am at the moment.
I even got a load of crap at my wedding 2 weeks ago because I politely asked for donations direct to the charities instead of presents but a fair amount of people thought it was a stupid idea so instead they bought me things I’d never use, like alcohol. It got turned around on me like I was being ungrateful when really it couldn’t have be more opposite if I tried, which I did try. Oh well, nothing as queer as folk hey!!
Yeah it’s a long wait for the Singer but I think it’ll definitely be worth it.

Anymore YouTube stuff?
Yes coming very soon, going to relaunch it with some proper money behind it. Still got the LFA vs CGT video to do with a few of the lads from the last thread. Also got the classics to do like my DB5, DB2/4 and the 250 Lusso. Should be good fun.

Congrats on the DLS. Surely the name is more important than the number anyway - that is how all Singers are identified, through the name of the commission. Got one picked out yet?
It’s all numbers with this car. It’s already got the name ‘DLS’. I think it’s only the classics that get named.
