Hi all - I am likely going to pull the engine on my Boxster this winter, in order to do various jobs (one of which is drilling out all the exhaust studs, this will be a lot easier in the garage rather than upside down outside on my back).

Its an M96.22 ,variant, 2.7 litres, 5 chain version. No EML or other indications of poor timing etc. Doesn't burn oil or smoke and holds temp fine, runs well, but is on 137k and is starting to get a bit noisy on startup from the chain drive.

Already planned on the engine itself would be:

- All fluids, plugs, service items
- Inspect coils and replace if required
- Replace plug tubes/seals
- Inspect oil cooler and replace sealing o-rings
- Replace waterpump
- Replace drive belt and press new cartidge bearings into the idlers (noisy/rough)
- Replace chain tensioner seals/o-rings (bit leaky)
- Replace RMS
- Clean/inspect/replace as required the intake system
- Inspect/potentially replace the chain guides/pads, as I suspect they are completely buggered after 137k.

I also want to check and sort any corrosion on the body, clean everything, fit the full new exhaust system and the replacement transmission mounts I've just ordered.

What other jobs should I be looking at carrying out whilst the engine is out? Bear in mind this is all free labour to be done by myself over a few months in winter, at minimal possible cost.

Thanks, sort of matches my thoughts. Clutch is quite recent but obviously will check everything that comes off and make a judgement. I think I am going to bite the bullet and get on with it.
