So I follow Katana Ltd who restore 956 and 962 race cars and do an amazing job on Instagram, well worth a follow if you don't already.

They shared this post about the first 962LM prototype, the red car that burnt to a crisp after testing at MIRA way back when.

I love the CR and had tried to find out how many had been made years ago and had records for six cars with the sixth car being a hybrid of bodywork with a normal 962 front half and a 962CR rear half and assumed that they had made six CR's altogether but after talking with Katana I think I've got the whole story straightened out.

Hybrid car known as 962CR06, Schuppan had to satisfy a contract with Art Sports (The AS in the chassis number as opposed to VS I assume) so he made a bitsa of original and CR parts for the final car.



Amazing things but pretty unloved in supercar history, same with the Dauer, Derek Bell and DP Motorsport variants. Glad they were made though.

I like creating/maintaining rare car registries (would love to do it as a job) so forgive me if this is a bit nerdish and boring but at least that's one mystery I've always wondered about seemingly solved.

That one is either the yellow one now or it's the silver chassis #04. Have never been able to confirm which it was/is.
