991.2 Broken Into

My 991.2 was broken into over Friday night. It has a normal button activation on the key fob (NOT proximity sensor). I locked the car on Friday evening and opened it on Saturday afternoon to find the glove box and door pockets emptied onto the passenger seat and floor respectively. There were no signs of a break-in. How is it possible to access a locked car, can the key fob be "read" and mimicked remotely?

Having now played with the car I can confirm a) if the car is locked and then unlocked, it will self lock in around a minute and b) that it does not self-lock after leaving the car (I guess that prevent getting locked out with your keys within). It a GTS with fixed mirrors.

Conclusion I'm an idiot and must have either hit the wrong button of not hit any buttons!!
