There have been many backdate, retro 911 threads so apologies for another but as times are hard I reckon it's time for a fresh budget build. I reckon I can get a better looking car than a Singer for less than £35k. That includes buying the 911.

Did do one before a few years back. It didn't end well.

https://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum/731043-964-c...

I have tried to buy my Gulf 964 back...no dice as it's a "lower price range part of a significant collection". Someone else owning my build feels like watching some geezer with a ponytail touching up an ex girlfriend in front of you. Sure I've moved on but this was emotional. It was made for me. Bespoke. Like someone wearing your hand made suit. Badly. .

Anyway am trying to move on because I have found love again, a new project...Photo attached of my new purchase....it's called Fugly. To celebrate the individual, to hell with good taste, to adorn my new baby with gold plated Fuchs, cashmere and ostrich leather....the nice people at Pro9 Porsche that did the Gulf job have been warned it's coming and they are not keen. This must be a good sign. Will post the build here instead of Rennlist as we need to keep it local these days

I quite like the look of this one but there's a load of things I'd have to improve on. I thought spend $50,000 instead of $500,000 ( I think that's the price of the one photographed below) and get something cooler

Actually, it resolves some of the visual issues with the original:

Just a shame it isnt an old Fiat smile
Fugly was almost that blue colour when it was new so not far off...I'm 6'5" and 22 stone so Fiat Coupe ownership is out. Mind you I did meet a tall Jamie Theakstone and he turned up in that car in that colour. Check the Celeb history. Could have been his. That's also why I'd like a 911 Targa, more headroom.

I bought it in Belgium, it is ex Japan, correct. I did get someone to look over it, it is rust free, 47000 kms with history, mechanic reckons heated garage from new. I was told that it is a limited edition Dage DP Motorsport Strosek bb Rinspeed Kamikazi Coolboy Tidysnatch Funcar but mind you, you need to be careful of the info you get off forum experts

Just checked the original colour of Fugly when new, the info I got from the dealer was wrong, he said Minerva blue...it was the fabulous and rare Arrow Blue

What about a back date to a pre impact bumper Speedster type like PS Spyder? Good candidate for complete roof chop! Or a 964 wide body speedster? Very rare.

I used to own a blue 964 Speedster, tiptronic, left hand drive, terrible car. Fugly is 1978 underneath so lends itself to backdate better and cheaper than restoring to original impact bumpers

The original engine lid is hidden in there somewhere I’m told. I really should have contacted my local Porsche Club GB rep to see if they’d like it on their stand at the next big show.

Great project, really hope you decide to go to original colour. What sort of money did it cost to get it over. Looks a great project to me, better than starting with a rust bucket.
I’m torn, a fabulous original colour but thought Integrale Evo Lord Blue to match a 3 door Range Rover I’m doing...or maybe do the 3 door RR in Arrow Blue too....

Tried to buy a couple of used Momo Prototipo Singer Steering wheels from various sites. It appears despite no buy it now people don’t wait until the auction ends...well their loss. Why do sellers think someone wants to end the auction early? In a hurry to get a steering wheel and can’t wait two days?? Now forced to buy one from a factory in China. New. £45 delivered wink seems very well made

Could be a first for me on a project, someone sniffing around the Recaro front seats for £300....less £250 for the Porsche seats...less £45 for the Momo...that's £5 the right way.....I'm UP....I'm in profit woohoo But not for much long I feel...

Cost landed with 5% vat (historic) just over £20k , went via Belgium from Japan, still a few sound 911’s in Japan for £20-30 but It’s a lottery and I feel that Ive been lucky
