Just received emails from PCGB about an Extraordinary General Meeting calling for the board to be replaced. All sounds very dramatic. Didn’t know these things were that important, but we are in a post Handforth Parish Council era I suppose. Didn’t really understand the background of the issue.

I noticed a lot of those calling for the meeting shared surnames and wonder how much of that 50 odd were just a few mates and partners. Problem is as it seems many members myself included don’t really have much of an opinion on the issue and don’t involve themselves enough to care. I attend the odd trackday and read Porsche Post from time to time and will pop by the stand if I get the chance. But I’m unlikely to make time to attend the EGM though it might be entertaining, thus those voting will be a certain subset who may or may not have an agenda to swing control of the club. It’s almost a coup!

Maybe I’ll tune in for the crac after all

Thank you fo those comments and particularly Rob for your insights.

It really is a worrying governance issue and the thought that 12 couples and 25 odd friends could wield such power over a large organisation without clarifying who will be running the accounts if they are successful.

The technical challenges of running a fair meeting will be a huge undertaking as anyone who has attempted virtual meetings on even a small scale will attest. It will almost certainly be a heated and trying meeting, then to get some sort of vote through at the end seems highly optimistic.

I think I will try to tune in to the meeting if I can and hope other normally silent members do the same. At least to see what the issues are. I’ve only been a member for four years and haven’t voted before - but at least with the usual vote one assumes those going for the positions will have put in some significant effort to the club before hand and have good standing. To allow a small subset to upset that without good reason really would be a shame.

The Times article does shed a bit of light on who the protagonists are and some of the issues but it’s only a brief one. Doesn’t answer many questions unfortunately.

Trackdays are an interesting point, I mostly do mine with MSV on cost grounds, however I’ve attended two PCGB TDs and though cost was higher than MSV, where comparable, the club atmosphere and the selection of cars to see was exceptional and I would say both provided me with some of my best driving experiences. The photography (by Jakob Ebrey) was incredible and free. I’d make a point of doing one at least once a year, especially considering the lower numbers and noise limits. The standard of driving was more mixed, particularly at Silverstone, but not too frustrating and far better than I’ve experienced elsewhere with no wreck less driving witnessed.

Porsche Post makes good toilet reading, but nothing exceptional.

I don’t feel I’m getting such poor value that I’d want heads to roll.
