Collecting cars 964RS
Discussion
I'm often browsing the CC's website and like most of us intrigued to see what cars are actually going for rather than doing the usual comparing dealer websites.
They currently have a Fly Yellow 964RS ( bloody lovely thing) that's already hit 140k with 6 days to go.
Now i know these are a well sort after commodity in the Porsche world but it struck me as expensive with 6 days left until i had a look on the Thomas Schmitz website and the same car was previously sold there for 325k Euros . Or at least it was advertised at that price so lets assume 300k Euros.
Do people really pay that much from Thomas?
I saw a red one at JZM few months back up at 160k similar mileage.
Maybe i just need bringing up to speed with the rarity of Fly Yellow.....

Thanks SRT H / seawise.
I have to say I have really mixed emotions about it and a huge part of me is praying it doesn’t hit the reserve tbh.
I’ve really tried not to post about the sale on PH as it didn’t feel right, but mention of the TJS car got the better of me - should have tried harder I guess !
Hi sorry I was obviously unaware it was your car. I’m happy to take the post down if you’d prefer ? I have to say I have really mixed emotions about it and a huge part of me is praying it doesn’t hit the reserve tbh.

Seems to be a strong auction already so golf luck with the sale

It was a Giallo Fly 964RS that actually led me to PistonHeads all those years ago. I was at Oulton Park and someone had one there on a track day, Speedline 3 piece wheels with colour coded centres and a matching yellow Blaupunkt radio.
I don't even recall what I was driving back then, maybe a 350Z and after going out as a passenger I was totally hooked. I joined PH to try and find a decent one but they were already creeping up in value back then (maybe 2008?), every time I found a good one (there were so many rough ones) it was about £5k above the bottom of the market and I couldn't afford it.
By the time I'd saved up £35k they were getting on for £40k and on it went until they exploded. Got close at the Nürburgring when an owner fancied my M3csl as a part exchange but bought a new R26.R instead.
I'd still love one but I really wouldn't feel comfortable tracking something that value, even if I could afford it (I can't!).

Never thought they'd go as nuts as they did and at these levels i cant be getting involved.
Interesting you mention having an R26R as i bought one back end of last year.

Hi GT3Manthey, no worries - free forum, you’re absolutely free to do as you wish, but thanks for the offer.
Not really sure why I was trying to keep it low key and private TBH - maybe a bit embarrassed as I’d posted so much on here about finding a 964RS and now I’m selling, plus genuinely being in two minds about what I’m doing as I’m pretty sure I’m going to regret it. Lastly not wanting to feel like I was talking up the car I guess as anything I say about it will be treated with understandable scepticism I guess.
Either way , no worries whatsoever

Yes sorry for the thread deviation, I can bore people’s socks off about these cars!
Its ok , i may have started the thread about the 964RS but its a car forum and we all get carried away with general car chatter. Plus, the R26R is a cracking bit of kit so i'm all ears with more details as i cant honestly say i know enough about my car just yet.
Obviously hoping for a few track days this year.

A mate of mine who is a Porsche nut bought his mint green 964RS NGT for about 30k probably getting on for 15 years ago and with the intention of using as a track day toy
He's done well out of it!
On the other hand one of my extended family sold his 1973 2.7RS at a similar time, we all thought he'd done well at getting 170k for it considering he'd only paid about 10 grand back in the 80's. Still, he bought a pair of 993RS's with the proceeds, one clubsport and one touring, for about 30k a piece so he's not crying too much!
I dithered soooo much back in those days ! He's done well out of it!

I really have no clue as to where the prices go from here but then i'm not in a position to go lumping in now anyway so dilemma solved !

Superb cars, my best mate's very nice one is coming on Collecting Cars this week.
Just spotted the car ..... https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2009-renaultsp...Looks a very fine example.
Upgraded the front brakes from standard with two piece disks ?
Make a a healthy difference would you say ?

We have a group chat and we were all astounded last night when the bids kept rolling in!
In its defence, it really is a good example in a rare colour-I’d actually say the advert doesn’t convey just how well it’s been looked after.
As he’s a member of the RAC (the club not the breakdown service) and is 60 this year I said he should have made more of it in the advert like that woman in her 70s who had one
I'm no expert on the value of these things but by the looks of it your mates car might be setting the new benchmark !In its defence, it really is a good example in a rare colour-I’d actually say the advert doesn’t convey just how well it’s been looked after.

I don't really agree, the cheapest one on PH is £27k and the only cheaper one on Autotrader is the one that was first owned by the 70 year old lady. It's bounced around 3 different dealers for 2 years now with various issues. We know someone who was offered it as trade for £16k and turned it down.
If my mate's goes for around £20k I reckon it's a bit of a bargain-I can certainly see it at a dealer's for £25k and it selling-it needs zero spent on it.

I thought i'd spotted one on PH's at 22k but maybe i'm mistaken.
Whats the story with the one owned by the 70yr old lady ? I've just spotted it on AT
I had a look at the pics and yes its in amazing condition.
Watching with interest

That’s the 70 year old lady one, it’s still on AT although down as a private sale.
They’re funny things to value. I can’t ever see them going stratospheric in price (but then who knows?) but they’ve definitely gone up. They settled at around £16k for years, then seemed to go up to early £20k, now?
Which one did you buy off CC?

Who bought it ? Did it go to a dealer or punter did you see ? I had to leave when it was about to close at 155,500, supper time !
Pancake won it. Maybe he's a dealer or better still its a private guy.
I love watching the closing sales with CC's although in this instance it'd loved to have seen it go for north of 200 for the seller
