I've had my Porsche 718 GT4 now for 2 months. In that time I've had so much Porsche hate. I just can't believe the behavior of some people, from hand shandy signals, to tail gating, trying to prevoke a race, cutting across me. I've never had this with the TVR, the Lotus or for that matter the 981S that I've owned. It's happening virtually everytime I drive the car and it's spoiling the enjoyment, which believe me is hard to do. What worrys me is, if there is this much aggression on the road what's going to happen when I park it up unattended??

PS Just went out to see if the tracker was working and got cut up furious

Thank you for your replies, some amusing anecdotes as well some not so. It seems I'm not alone in being the target for Porsche hate.

One thing does ring true though, none of the people who have given me grief have been driving, what I would call 'a nice car'. They have either been old hot hatches, white vans or Nissan Micra types that don't like being overtaken by noisy cars.

From the looks point of view, having a wing may put a target on your back to some drivers. I also have a GT04 *** plate which might label me as being a bit of a spod. The car colour is gentian blue with aurum wheels, which I was unsure about when I bought the car but actually it looks pretty cool but to others may look a bit blingy.

My driving has been pretty sedate, since I have been running the car in and have had to wait quite a while for the ppf to be applied. I don't therefore think it is my driving. So I'm in aggreement with those that concluded that it is the envious, jealous types which I will be looking over my shoulder for. I can handle the goading etc on the road but my worry is leaving the car unattended in a public place which is bound to happen at some point. C

In 1991, I bought a new M100 Elan, it was my pride and joy. I used it as my daily. I still have it! I worked for a large engineering consultancy. After I resigned, I asked my line director if there was any bad feeling amongst the other directors about me owning my Elan. To which he answered in the affirmative. Apparently it gave the wrong impression to the other employees and would be clients. It didn't matter that I didn't send my kids to private schools, had expensive carribean holidays and had a swimming pool in my back garden.

How fickle people can be!

OP here, just driven up from the south to the peak district for a break. Inside lane doing 60mph minding my own business on the A50. Flat bed truck goes past and lobs a can at me. Managed to dodge it thankfully. What is up with people?

OP here. Just got back from a trip to Zandvoort in Holland and what a breath of fresh air even in this heat. Nothing but thumbs up and waves from drivers and pedestrians throughout the trip. Renewed my faith in human kindness. Back in the UK now so hope the good vibes continue. C
