Hi,

I've got a 1986 8v 944 and the cooling system broke last week, the fan stuck itself on, so I'm pretty sure the Thermofan switch is bad. Only its stuck itself off now.. so i'm hoping the switch has just locked 'off' now, and not that i've burnt out the fan motor. The Mk-1 nostril suggests not as it doesnt stink of melted coils.

I can change this, but whilst rummaging around I noticed that I have just one cooling fan... All the literature and workshop manuals i've looked at suggest I should have two.. Can anyone shed any light on the change.. was it a cost down on later models??

Any help or other pointers of changing this switch would be great.

Cheers

Thanks all,

I disconnected the thermofan switch wires and sparked them, the motor runs fine, so its got to be the switch in the rad.
I might well try the quick switch.. its that or bleed off a few ltrs and refil.

At least i know the fix now, so should be home for Christmas!!
