B&Q Table legs
Discussion
The title might be a bit misleading. Let me explain.
B&Q are selling table legs, available either in chrome or black colors. The black ones are £9 a pop and 3 quid cheaper than the chrome ones, so I went for these:
I thought I post this for the budget- conscious Tuscan owner, who likes to undertake extensive driving holidays in Europe. And who, under no circumstance, would drill wholes into their P+J and in general would do nothing that is not 100% reversible.
Hope this helps.
To add: I am aware this is nothing for the enthusiastic purist, but for me, it does the job.

Step by step; nice & easy.
Starting point
Cut the leg and add alcantara for a snug fit. This will also eliminate any rattling. Drill a hole through the plastic cap.
Use washer and nut to add flexible gooseneck
You are starting to see where this is leading to. I am in the correct forum.
Add a Brodit passive (an active cradle will not be removable!) Nexus 7 holder. 30 quid a pop from Amazon.
The whole thing does not look sexy, I know. Function over design. For a more stylish version, just get it machined from billet.
Power supply; can be used to charge mobile phone when cradle is removed:
Remove ashtray and insert holder:
Add tablet and CoPilot navigation app. Enjoy your trip; not sure about the weather, though

Fab initiative shown above, but what's wrong with a Brodit gooseneck screen mount?
Residual vibration can be dampened using one of the spongey screen demister pad thingies trapped between dash and adjustable arm.
This has worked for me on several motors.
Occam's razor....?
Neil.

Aha - just saw the "budget conscious" caveat.
Still, Brodit gets my vote (and my pennies).
I would actually think that a Brodit screen suction mount would be the cheaper solution. The main reasoning for going down the "ashtray way" is simple: I always hated the TomTom hanging from the windscreen. It is difficult to reach and my seat belts just love to lock up as soon as the car is not 100% leveled. Finally, the Tuscan wind screen is already relatively small and I found even the small TomTom rather obtrusive.Residual vibration can be dampened using one of the spongey screen demister pad thingies trapped between dash and adjustable arm.

Due to their mass and dynamic loads generated during spirited driving, a tablet mount requires the rather unattractive double- suction mount. The goose neck will also be too short to bring the tablet sufficiently far away from the screen and certainly not low enough, blocking the view. Finally, if placed in the center, the tablet would also partially block access to the car radio, particularly if in portrait position. And last, I just don't entirely trust these suction cups (maybe it's just me).
Therefore no Occam's Razor: they just don't do the same
