Just thought I would share this snippet. Had to replace my coil pack and the usual vendors are out of stock.... went to my local scrappy and discovered the coil pack is off a Vauxhall/Opel V6 (Omega/Carlton). Bosch Part No 0221503002, Cost me 30 quid. Also picked up a spare starter motor that's off a BMW 3 series late mark 3, tried the starter as I was fitting the coil pack and it fits and works fine, also 30 quid.

The crank pick up is a Ford item but I have yet to suss out what its off.... Ford 88WF-6C315-AD

BigJL perhaps you want to add these to your excellent website....

Ian,
I was setting the car up to run on an Emerald ECU when my coil packed in, I think I left the ignition on too long as the fuse also went.

FT,
Good find, that website is very useful.

I think BigJL is setting up an alternative parts listing for his website.

Do coil packs wear out and you lose performance or do they either work or not?

My question being, is it worth buying a second hand one?
In my casse it was, I am working to a dead line and I could'nt get one anywhere for up to a week. The second hand one has gotten me away and enabled me to map the ECU to hopefully pass an MOT. I have a new replacement on order with my local GM dealer, due in tomorrow. Seems these units are not easily obtained new off the shelf at the moment. TVR Car Parts are awaiting stock and Clever Trevor were not answering the phone. I didn't want to miss the boat with a Bank Holiday weekend looming.

Having given your query more thought.... It's not an item you replace at a particular service interval. You replace a coil pack when it goes.... I would guess a second hand one off a lowish mileage car is no worse than one that has been on your TVR for similar mileage.
