Ban on Hybrid Cars by 2040?

Just found this article while having a browse online. What do you guys think? Is this a step in the right direction?

You'd think that if there were less hybrid cars in circulation that more people would feel inclined to purchase a petrol/diesel car...

Yep - it's a joke. Of course we all know of the environmental impact which is caused by co2 emissions. But seriously. 2040? Seems too soon to be making such a jump if you ask me.

You'd hope they'll be getting more than 50 miles by 2040!

Nonetheless, you can bet your life I'll be purchasing a hybrid car within the next few years and keeping it hidden away in my garage until long after 2040 if this silly ban comes through as early as they say. Imagine that! The last of its kind.
