Did a quick search on here and they all seem to be the same fitment/caliper on the rear of a Cerb. I fitted new Mintex recently and the squealing is an absolute nonsense. They have been in and out several times with varying amounts of anti-squeal compound. Barry chamfered the edges and tried some sikoflex etc which lasted a short time but the squeal has returned. I should've kept the half-worn ones as they were fine but hindsight etc....

What are people using? Car isn't tracked and I had even thought about the C-L pads maybe all-round as an upgrade unless they are too much for the road? Ferrodo seem to do rears (2500's) but no particular affinity, I just need to stop the bloody squealing!!

Cheers

Thank You All for the replies. The pads are Mintex 1144's which I have used to good effect on other cars in the past so bought them without any concern. I actually fitted brand new anti-rattle plates at the same time and left off the little springs as they were a phaff to fit with the plates. I am tempted to try (as suggested by Barry) removing the plates and trying the springs on their own as that is the only combination not yet used. Personally i think its the actual pads as the previous ones (make unknown) were silent and there were no plates fitted, just springs.

The Pagids sound a bit expensive and I would like a good balance of working reasonably from cold. Am I correct in thinking Brummie's name is Paul Chance? That's the name on the CL website and I seem to recall seeing it on here somewhere.

I am also going to check for pins as mine are getting a bit iffy with all the removal/refitting and will come back if I find anything.

I also use CRC Brake Quiet spray

It is not a lubricant, it is a tacky adhesive that goes on the back of the pad, stopping it vibrating against the piston

Cheers UKKID, I have ordered this stuff, should get here tomorrow and shall give it a whirl.

Well the anti-squeal stuff eventually arrived. Followed the destructions and went for a drive. Silent for the first mile or so then it returned. Out of interest my SRT jeep was making a little noise from one of the rears (Brembos), so stripped and cleaned them, applied the anti-squeal and again silent for a mile or so then the same noise returned. Discs and pads on both are all close to new, no lips etc on discs . Dunno if the stuff needs to sit overnight after some warming through to cure (it just says to wait 10 mins before fitting) then you are probably just as well sticking with the usual products.

I had a good chat with Paul from CL yesterday before the goo arrived and he is waiting on a batch of rears coming in. I will probably go for a full set from him as quite a bit less than the Pagids and hopefully the noise will stop.......

Hi Byker, I called him at his work on 01676 248206 which is the main number. It was Brummie that answered.

Spoke with Paul this afternoon. Pads are in stock and I have ordered a full set as the squealing is not going away. Due to not knowing the make, age or anything else about the fronts it seemed to make sense to go the whole hog as what is there does give a fair bit of dust onto the wheels.

I'll post back once they are on!

Beat me to it! All the kit arrived today, very shiny and stickers must be worth an extra 5bhp easy.....

My rears are completely plain too but no idea what make or even how old. No lip on them or any discernible wear that I can see so if it stays dry tomorrow I might get the new shiny bits on!

Well that's a bit different to say the least. At last no squealing from the rear but lots of initial bite straight out of the box. The rears actually feel like they are contributing to the braking effort again. This was all just around 30mph on initial test/heat cycle which was unexpected. Currently cooling for an hour then I shall give them a wee bit more to think about.
