Throttle Cable Pedal Mismatch
Discussion
I've checked lots of threads, but no one seems to have mentioned the pedal connection before
My old cable goes through a collet, and then the collet locates in the end of the pedal
However the new cable (E2931 4.5 Cerb 95cm) just has a lead ball
I'd previously replaced the cable with a generic one, leaving the outer in place, so I have to use a clamp in place of the ball
However I really wanted to use a genuine cable to remove that potential failure point
If I leave out the collet I reckon that increases the chance that the cable will fray, so my only other option with this cable is to use a clamp
Are there different pedal types, or is the cable simply wrong?

It's wrong. Every cable I've ever seen has the ferrule on it. What does the other end of the cable look like? That should have a ball end. It's not been assembled the wrong way around has it?
I hope this isn't another one of those cables that's being remanufactured but incorrectly, just like the handbrake cables which don't fit through the backplate because the end fitting is too big
Oh balls - both ends are the sameI hope this isn't another one of those cables that's being remanufactured but incorrectly, just like the handbrake cables which don't fit through the backplate because the end fitting is too big
Will try to get a replacement, thanks for the quick reply

5th pic in this knobhead's article says that the Collar is detachable from the cable so I guess it has just become 'slightly stuck' in transit...
Thanks, that is really useful, I thought I would have to use one cable to pull the other through, but you are saying that isn't necessary - good to knowspitfire4v8 said:

No not incorrectly, but certainly not understanding the purpose of the ferruleYou can just see from this pic that the nylon part has been designed for the ferrule to fit perfectly
Not a pleasant job
First refit the rubber grommet in the pedal box above the pedal from behind (tricky left-handed task)
Lube the grommet inner
Feed the nylon end of the cable through the grommet from the reservoir side by getting the cable through first and pulling
This won't work unless the cable sheath is lined up nicely, if the nylon part is not aligned it won't pull through
If the rubber grommet isn't fitted from behind it will be pushed right out again, if it's fitted to the nylon part, it won't seat properly
Now loop the cable and feed back in to the pedal box, then feed it out of the large rubber grommet in to the engine bay
Thankfully after all that I now have a much lighter throttle pedal
