Anyone had the pleasure of driving a Cerbera and an Evora?

I was in the process of buying a Evora 400 but the thought of owning a Cerbera is also playing on my mind. I know what I am getting into in terms of running costs and potential areas to look out for with a Cerbera but I am keen to understand if a well set up Cerbera is as good or close to an Evora as a drivers car on country roads.

Look forward to your wisdom:-)

Thanks for your replies guys. I think I am only going to sort the decision by test driving a Cerb.

Hi Carl,

With your previous, I would have thought the Lotus,
although either will be a massive departure from Hot Hatches.

They both weigh approx 1200 Kg.
They both have approx 400 bhp.
The 400 would be 10 years younger and probably more tech.

If you can afford to trailer the car to a Track Day then the Lotus.

If you can't then...I still think the extra seating in the Cerb would win it for me if I had that choice
but
You will have guessed that from my PH Moniker. laugh

Unfortunately my profile isn't a true reflection of what I drive or have driven. I have a late Vanquish, Lotus Elise S1 with Caterham r500 spec engine and I have run virtually every spec Caterham up to a R600 Caterham race car so I like analog rear wheel drive cars. My hot hatch fettish was based around a 290 bhp 205 GTi turbo which I wish I hadn't sold last year as it was bonkers fun. Some good answers so far.

Massive change of plan - I purchase a 991 GT3 in the end which is epic.

Nice car a bit more costly than the Cerb or Evora unless you were looking at new Evoras

Man maths? Lottery Win or just thought - what the heck ? smile
I was originally considering a GT3 but I was put off by the fact that you "apparently" cannot convert them to 4 seats. I then found a business that specializes in the conversion and it was then an easy decision. The outlay is clearly more but the whole life costs will be comparable to a Cerb after GT3 depreciation

I love the rants about speed and which car is faster. Speed was 50% of the decision for me as I was also looking for a car that is amazing fun to drive, gets some nice attention and makes me want to get up in the morning for a quick blat. The GT3 fits my needs best at the moment but I might still buy a Cerb in the summer for that extra shot of adrenalin.

I agree with this. Even though the power to weight of the cerb is up there with the best of them, the planets really do have to align for it to win out - the right gear and speed for that gear, warm tyres, right road surface... and enough road and speed for it to really rev out. Acceleration from low speeds is hopeless, there is just no traction. When comparing it with heavier cars of similar power to weight, the heavier car will generally win - more grip at lower speeds and more outright power at higher speeds when weight is less of a factor. That being the case, a Cerbera could eat a GT3 from, I dunno, 130-134mph smile
Haha Car and Driver recorded 7.1 seconds to 100mph and a 1/4 mile time of 11.2 for the 991.1 GT3. I think most Cerbs post mid to late 12's for the 1/4 mile even though an irrelevant measurement unless you support Trump.

I wouldn't have toyos on any car after doing a track day with them. They overheated within one lap. A set of Michelin PS4s on a Cerebra must make a big difference. I wouldn't recommend Cup 2s on any car as they are ditch finders with standing water. They are for fair weather only and I am speaking from experience having aquaplaned at 70mph on the motorway.

All we need now is a runway and a Porsche that has a. manual gearbox and b. no tc

I feel a race coming on.
I had a good race with 997.2 Turbo S at Snetterton once, lasted about 20 mins.

I couldn't get on the power as early as him out of the corners, his traction gave him a big advantage there, by half way down the straights he was in my way holding me up, I could brake 20m later than him but track day rules forbid overtaking on the brakes.

I could corner quicker than him as well, the Porker getting quite unsettled in the faster corners where as the Cerb is so planted in fast corners.

In summary the Cerb was the quicker car round Snetterton.
I suspect you are more of a driving god that the Porsche driver. The 997.2 Turbo S is ridiculously fast and has carbon ceramics - it can do 60-100mph in 3.1 seconds and a 1/4 mile in 10.7 but would make you yawn at all times. I bet you loved overtaking it

After a GT3 and Mclaren 650s I am now the owner of a Cerbera AJP 4.5😂

For me (manual 991.2), the outright drama of the Cerbera always wins.
Of course the GT3 would leave it for dead, any situation, any road. But quite simply, the Cerbera is more fun, by virtue of being more compromised and challenging to extract performance from (without ending up in a hedge) - that’s the charm.
Enjoy the GT3, it’s an absolutely epic car and quite bullet-proof. Residuals are stellar too.
That's exactly why there is a Cerbera on my drive now and the GT3 has gone. I bought a Mclaren 650s in between which was only fun at obscene speeds. The GT3 and 650s have layers of feel missing compared to the Cerbera. When I get home after driving the Cerbera I am just pleased to be still alive where as I was pleased to not be arrested when I got home after driving the 650s.
