Update - I am receiving the first kit I put together tomorrow, hopefully take pics a long the way - including solder burns knowing my luck! Mine are pretty dim at the moment, plus I love the white/blue LED clarity... and one bright LED, should brighten it all up.
I bought an extra set just in-case it's really good I can let one of you guys have them too. (aren't i nice) I’ve intended not to be drilling etc, just straight replacements, too many LED’s and it will be too bright. but if the single replacement is not enough i will have to rethink.

I’ve spoken to the supplier and I can get the various ranges of colours, purple to white red, yellow orange, so effects to suit the car colours just have to remember how to remove the top dial cover.

  • Update*
Nice day thought I would see what the results would turn out.

First remove the dash:

Removal of instruments:

Umm, as usual variation on bulb connections, typical TVR:

Bayonet and wedge connections:

We have light: I opted out for the high intensity thinking they were going to be too bright:

Put back together again, here’s the result: camera settings make is 'bluer than normal'

From front:

I’ve left a 'normal bulb' in so you have reference to the old style.

overall i'm happy as it's very subtle (dispite photo's)

Dean

the dash comes off really easy, putting the nuts back on after is a little tricky, i did all in about 1 hour.

i did buy 2 packs of LED's - but i need to get some bayonet LED's (speedo, fuel, clock) to finish off. currently have the LED's with wedge fitting in bayonet fitting if that makes any sense.

i have 3 led's left over (2 for the rev counter - 1 for oil pressure/ water temp). soon as i have the bayonet fittings i can send someone the complete pack.

if you compare the fuel guage light (which is still on original) in the photo it is relatively bright, and dim in 'real life' thus the blue has been over compensated by my digital cameras night mode.

i also might try the brighter versions to see variations.

Looks good. Are the LEDs any brighter than the standard bulbs?

they are a tiny bit plus they look cool, but i've just ordered a new high intensity set to see if i can get a little more light.

OK, just knocked this up quickly - excuse the crudeness, but simple is best.
B = for bayonet, W = those flat wedge bulbs.

let me know if you need anything more

And another thing...

...anyone thought of changing the interior light bulbs for a couple of these as well? Might be a bit Max Power, or cool mod?

i'm doing the interior dull bulb next. not max power just more light.

Deano,

this is a brill' thread, lots of info, thought and reaction.

You've convinced me !

The only thing that worries me is the light given off by the 'normal dial' in the photos.
My dials give off enough candle power to resemble coal in the black Hole of Calcutta...... at night..... in a heavy storm so I'm worried there's something more basic wrong with my lighting system before I invest in a whole load of stuff which may result in the dashboard being in my lap for the next 18 months and then end up not improving anything ! Good grief, what a sentence !

PJ

as the LED's have resistors on - they should be gleaming.

Resurrecting my old thread - nice work! Mine have been in since the start of this thread and have been fine.

Re: the Cig Lighter - this is widely documented, and unfortunate. however the pull of this compared to LED's is completely different.
