The Tifosi on this board might like this:

Personally I found it to be a little inaccurate, particularly at the Nurbugring in the wet!!

Maybe inaccurate for the wet, but my experiences with 996TT and driving Kevin's 360 means that I am absolutely convinced the 360 will leave a 996TT (rolling start anyway!). A tiptronic 996TT? My car will say goodbye to that one easily.

Regards

Going to the Ring in September, a colleague in a 360 and myself in my 996tt. When there in May I took him on the straight following Galgenkopf (have it on video). This time I think we'll have to level the speed to say 100mph, running parallel then lamp it and see what happens.

Agreed on the tipronic, they lose a second to 100mph, but people who have thwm seem to like them. I went for manual as is the 360 on the forthcoming trip.

May have to attend a PH meet one day. (Near some nice roads)

Dazren - we MUST have your 996TT at the next meet - purely scientific of course!!!!

Being based just outside Bristol, I'm keeping my eye out for any meets west of Reading. London is just too much hassle. The annual dinner in Swindon on 2nd Nov is no good because I'm booked off to be away that weekend.

I was waiting for a response from you! Seriously though, looking at the power to weight ratio, the 355 and the 996TT tiptronic are on par, the 360 has better power to weight than the manual 996TT. Also, looked at the stats and even according to Porsche the tiptronic has a similar 0-100 time as the 355, and 0-60 its slightly slower.

Oh, and believe me 355 drivers too have a lot of respect for the 996 TT

Regards

Good afternoon gents. A while before ordering my 996tt I read an article in CAR magazine comparing the 360 against the 996TT. One of the figures that I remember to this day is the the 30-70 time. In a 996tt it is 3.4 secs whilst in a 360 it is 4.3, both the cars were manual.

What it is important to remember is not get hung up on the BHP/tonne ratio, The Ferrari is 5% short of the TT on BHP but more than 5% lighter so would have a higher BHP/tonne figure, indicating superior acceleration right? Errrr NO. What we are forgetting is the torque of 413lb/ft of the Porsche versus 290ish of the Ferrari. The torque affects the speed of pick up so although when the Ferrari gets to the higher revs it may be quick, the porsche would have already been there and be working it's way up the next gear.

It is the difference in torque that allowed me to waste a 360 on the Dottinger Hohe straight of the Nurburgring. You may suggest differences in driver. The driver of the Ferrari has a full race licence racing a 996 in the Porsche open series, I am assured by his passenger that he was going for it.

sorry ninja

PORSCHE RULES

(Even though it's more of an occassion firing up a Ferrari and they ARE fanny magnets)

Well I'm not entirely convinced , but you could always prove the point at a PH meet (hint, hint). So when do we get a race together?()

Seriously, though, I know the Porker should be faster, just my experience of one really going for it against my 355 left me wondering, so I checked the stats according to Porsche and the 996TT with tip is actually slower than my car to 60 and on par for 100. I forgot to ask if it was a manual or tip. Manual is quite a bit faster?

Lee's car should be blindingly fast!

And if they are fanny magnets, maybe I'm counteracting it? But I have been asked for a ride by complete strangers, and one told me how her fantasy is to have sex on the bonnet of a red Ferrari. Told her to go find an owner of a Red 412i, anything else would be shame to ruin!

Whenever there's a meet west of reading I'll be up for it. (Bristol based and Londons too far with the speed limits and traffic we have).

The manual is 40kg lighter than the tiptronic. The manual has six gears the tiptronic has only 5. The 420bhp stats are I think 4.2 manual and 4.9 tiptronic to sixty. The tiptronic takes an extra second to get to 100mph. Obviously with alarming differences in performance mine is a manual (Also helps that I have a auto geramn luxobarge for work, city and traffic jams). I understand the 360 has the same 6 gears with both manual and F1 gearchange?

Lee77's car should go like the clappers, from a thread on the Porsche board he's had a different exhaust and airfilter put on. For about £2.5k his car is now chucking out 470bhp. When I ordered mine there was a factory performance option available which included work on the turbos, axhaust, gearbox, clutch etc. As I intend keeping the car for a very long time I went with the factory upgrade, for peace of mind and any future warranty issues.

Ref - Fanny Magnet. Years ago a colleague picked my brother up from Malaga airport in the latest red 348 as a surprise. Later that day they drove through Banus past Sinatras etc and lets just saw anything in a skirt had a glance. Some were even stroking the bonnet!!! The following day my brother spoke to his then Fiancee and told her about the car "It's an absolute Fanny Magnet", with that she put the phone down and didn't speak to him for 2 days. The term has thus stuck, although I don't think it's in the Oxford English Dictionary.

400/412s. I remember when they cam out in the eighties. Ferraris with 3 speed auto boxes. There used to be a program called manimal set in the states where he had a red one with a convertible roof, I used to think it looked fantastic. Lets face it though if you are going to pay ferrari maintainence costs you don't want a 4 seater auto. Hence they are so cheap.

DAZ.

Interesting article in EVO this month ref 996tt 450bhp (just like mine), 575, Vanquish and Murcielago.

Have a good run tomorrow.

Ninja,

X50 pack for the 996 means 450 hp and some torque increase.

Rich

BINGO, thats the one.

A little quote from EVO magazine on the X50 power package:

".....Turbo performance kit which comprehensively tweaks the turbocharger, intercooler, control units and exhaust system to pile 30bhp on top of the regular 420bhp and do a JCB to the landscape of the torque curve. The standard car's 413lb ft peak is available all the way from 2,700 to 5,600rpm. But on top of that is another plateau that reaches up to 457lb tf between 3,500 and 4,400rpm......."

DAZ

PS 457lb ft is the same peak torque as a GT2!!!!

Bloody Hell Lee, 485 lb ft of torque. I now find myself being in Ninja's situation:

"Wow! Wouldn't mind a ride in yours, mister!"

Are you up for a PH meet if we could sort out a few Ferraris and Porkers at a pub near some decent roads somewhere west of London.

I can see a great day of noisy barnstorming passenger rides and comparisons all in the name of science you understand.
